"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Veterans, Hot Springs and Pumpkin?

I was released from my calling in our Ward's young women's program, so that frees me up to attend the YSA Branch. I have always attended the Family Home Evening activities with Tom, but now I get to go to all 3 hours of church with the Young Single Adults too. I love attending their branch, there is a great spirit in their meetings. They alway have great, well-planned activities. Last Monday we delivered "care packages" to the State Veteran's Home. The Activities committee had made fleece scarves out of patriotic fabric, and home made star sugar cookies and they put them in little chinese take out boxes with plastic flags. We drove down to the Veteran's home and walked around and handed out the packages. The Veterans loved them. It was such a great way of saying thank you.

Last night we drove up to Roy Stone Hotsprings. It is midway between Horseshoe Bend and Sweet (kind of out in the middle of nowhere). It is privately owned and the activities committee reserved the whole pool so we had the place to ourselves. It was a cold evening so the hot springs felt great. There were some great games of PIG on the basketball hoop and "Marco Polo". I figure that hanging out with the youth in our stake will help keep us young :)

Today after church, the Branch had a "Linger Longer". Everyone was asked to bring a pumpkin food item. There was a great variety of pumpkin dishes, pumpkin chili, pumpkin soup, pumpkin roll, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin eggnog, pumpkin brownies, pumpkin cake, pumpkin whoopee pies and pumpkin empanadas. Everyone was supposed to vote for their favorite pumpkin dish. It was hard to chose because everything was delicious. Who knew there were so many ways to cook with pumpkin??

It Does keep you young and it gives you something to blog about! So which pumpkin dish did you vote for? Those hot springs look very fun . . .For a pool loving kind of girl.

I think that Veteran's activity was wonderful! I also enjoyed the activities when Roger was a singles ward bishop - the youngers help you step back in time a little bit.

Wow! Good thing you're not allergic to pumpkin. That hot springs looks fabulous! And I love the veterans idea. We are very blessed to live in this country.

I think I liked the pumpkin soup the best. I didn't try everything but that is the one I voted for. I'm planning to post it on Bunchberry Bites.

It warms my heart that they decided to thank some veterans!! It has definitely deepened my appreciation for those who have served in the military, even though we've hardly been in very long ourselves. The hot springs looks wonderful and the pumpkin dishes sound great. Sonds like a really cool branch.
