Tom and I love to go on a Fall Getaway every year to see the fall colors and enjoy the beautiful Idaho outdoors. It took us until the last weekend of October this year to get away but we took off last Friday and drove up to Sun Valley.
Idaho has had a very mild fall so most of the leaves are still on the trees and we found lots of beautiful autumn color.
We walked around the Sun Valley resort and looked at their newly remodeled hotel
We went out to dinner and went to the movie "The Martian" and stayed at the Tyrolean Lodge in Ketchum which happens to be where Sara and Jon stayed for their honeymoon.
Saturday morning we took off for parts unknown.
We drove up past Trail Creek on a dirt road and found our way to the base of Mount Borah.
We thought this cemetery in Chilly, Idaho
was uniquely picturesque
Yep, those are snow clouds
I have wanted to see Mt. Borah my whole life.
Mt. Borah for all you non-Idahoans is the tallest mountain in Idaho and yes, my husband has climbed it.
Not that I actually saw it because the top was cloud covered,
but at least I saw the bottom and got to go to the trailhead.
We saw herds of antelope (prong horn) but you can't see them in this picture.
In 1983, there was an 8.3 magnitude earthquake in Idaho.
The epicenter was right here outside of Challis, Idaho.
This is not a very good picture, but you can see the fault line and how the earth dropped 9 feet.
I remember the day well because we felt it here in Boise.
We drove through Challis and Tom relived his mountain man adventure from this past summer and showed me the church parking lot that he and the other mountain men camped in, then it was off to find a picnic spot.
We found a winner.
The weather was mild, the sun was shining, we were right by the beautiful Salmon river and we had a delicious sandwich from Atkinson's Market in Ketchum.
Gotta do a picnic selfie
We drove into a hot springs, imagine that.
I think it was called Slate creek hotsprings.
Slate creek was running white because of all the limestone in the water.
I think that is what gives hotsprings the "sulfur"smell.
We drove in 9 miles and 9 miles back on a dirt road so
Tom could check this hot springs out.
Then we drove through Stanley. I don't think there is anymore picturesque place than Stanley Idaho, even in late October. This was probably the last weekend in Stanley without snow on the ground.
We made it back to Boise in time to go trick or treating on Halloween with Eva and Sophie.
It was another awesome fall getaway.

Hey, you forgot to mention getting the best apple filled, maple topped, pastry ever in Challis. I can't get that one out of my mind.
