"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

3rd at State, Not too bad for a Sophomore!!

Taylor and his tennis coach Ronnie after the awards presentation The state tennis tournament ended yesterday. It was two full days of tennis and lots of ups and downs. We think we've aged 10 years in the last two days, but it was all worth it seeing Taylor play so well. Our first match was on Friday morning against Lake City.We won pretty easily 6-3, 6-2. Capital playing Lake City Our next match was against Idaho Falls #1. We knew we had a tough draw when we saw that we would match up against Idaho Falls in the second round. They are a great team, took second last year, and had beaten us in the Capital Invitational a few weeks earlier. We won the first set 6-3, lost the second set 6-2, then lost the third set 7-5 on a controversial call. Taylor and Nick were so disappointed because they realized they couldn't win state because now they were placed in the consolation bracket and would have to win their remaining 4 matches to finish 3rd. They picked themselves up and met Idaho Falls #2 in their next match later that afternoon. They had about an hour to regroup and re-energize themselves and they won easily 6-2, 6-0. It just happened to be my cousin Diane Fager's son and his partner that play on IF #2. It was fun sitting with Diane, Vance and my Uncle Ron. Saturday morning we had a match at 8 am against Boise #2. We won 7-5, 6-3. We then played Centennial at 10:30 am. They were the team that beat us in the District Championship match last weekend. We played great and won the first set 6-3, lost the second set 6-7(3), then won the third set 6-0. It was wacky! I think Centennial exerted all their will and spirit winning the second set, so just ran out of gas in the third set. We were so happy to beat them after they beat us. That put us in the championship match for the consolation title. We knew we were assured of either 3rd or 4th place. Guess who we had to play?? Idaho Falls #1. They had gone on to lose their next match against Mountain View after we played them. We played such a long, hot, emotional match against them, and Mt. View had drawn 2 easy opening matches, that by the time Mountain View got a hold of them, they were exhausted and they lost in straight sets. So they dropped down into consolation and we met them for the championship. It was a very good match. We won the first set 6-3, they won the second set 6-3, then we won the third set 6-3. Taylor and Nick played their hearts out. Taylor and Nick after they beat Idaho Falls for consolation It was so hot and they played 6 matches in 2 days, but they played like champions. It was too bad that we got the draw we got, because I think Idaho Falls, Capital and Mountain View were the 3 best teams and they were all on the same side of the bracket. Mountain View went on to beat Boise for the state championship title. We had beaten both Mountain View and Boise the previous weekend on our way to the finals in the District tournament. Oh well, that's the luck of the draw. I know it made our boys feel good knowing that they beat all 4 of the best teams in the state. Idaho Falls, Centennial, Mountain View and Boise. Taylor accepting his bronze medal at the Award's ceremony (Nick had to leave for Utah so couldn't be there) Plus Capital ended up getting 4th place in the Boy's state team title and the girls got 3rd place in the team title because Lauren Mulhern won girl's singles. Go Capital!!!!!!!!!! Taylor and Lauren holding the State trophy's with other tennis team members
