"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Escape to the Mountains!

Tom and I snuck away for our annual fall getaway last weekend. It was nice to be together after such a busy summer. Our friends, the Reeve's, let us use their cabin in Donnelly so we drove up to Donnelly on Thursday after work. On Friday, we stopped for breakfast at the Pancake House in McCall and then we headed north to new territory. We drove to Burgdorf, a very cool hotsprings. and old mining resort

and then we drove to Warren, a mining ghost town.

It was the first time I had ever been to Warren. From then on, we were driving to new country. We headed up the mountain and then down the mountain (Kay I think you would have gotten out and walked) and then took a crazy cow trail dirt road to Big Creek where we ate our picnic.
We even saw some fall colors. Our next dirt road took us to Yellow Pine and we were actually able to go about 30 miles per hour after the 5 miles per hour that we drove on the previous road. Man, two trips to Yellow Pine in one summer must be a record. The Yellow Pine folk were having a celebration, the Stibnite miners had finished up for the summer, so they roasted 3 pigs, and took all the townfolk on helicopter rides. We drove along the Salmon River and stopped at Sweet Sixteen Mile Hotspring and had a soak and then drove to Warm Lake, Cascade, and back to Donnelly. We covered about 200 miles but it was a beautiful drive and day!
Saturday morning we drove past Lake Cascade and up the mountain and took an 8 mile hike to another hot springs. Unfortunately there had been a forest fire so it wasn't the most beautiful hike and the hot springs was kind of creepy with lots of moss,
but Tom braved it and jumped right in. Yes, he does have his suit on.Then we headed back to Boise and got home just in time to watch that really awful BYU/Utah game which we don't want to talk about. Other than the game, it was a great fall getaway.

I'm sure I would have walked. Sounds just plain miserable to me. The hot springs looks fun. And yes, that game was even more miserable.

They have a Subway in the ghost town, huh? Looks good. And I remember I went to a ghost town w/ you guys when I was a kid. Are there a lot of them in Idaho or what? And it also sounds like if I ever want a dip in a hot springs, you guys know every single one in Idaho. Looks like fun!

Apparantly being out in the forest during hunting season means nothing to you. That orange hat is a classic! I've even had young teenagers ask me where I bought that cool hat. Oh, I am so with it.
