"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

August Adventures

All our kids deserted us (except for Taylor), so on Friday afternoon we decided to crash my brother John's family campout outside of McCall
at Lick Creek Campground.
John and Cindy's family was all together for a
bi-annual family camp out reunion.
We love camping with the Gabrielsen's, especially because they do all the work.
All we had to do was set up our tent and eat.
Ali with Adam, Amelia and Thomas
John cooking the steaks. The Gabrielsen's camp in style.
We ate steak and potatoes for dinner and eggs, sausage and donuts for breakfast.
After 3 days of camping, Cindy did not want me to take a picture of her, but she is beautiful cooking over an open fire.
Eloise and John
Yum, steak, hashbrowns and corn.
What a spot!
Eloise, Amelia and Adam had their own little tent to play in.
The mighty fishermen. Aaron was quite proud of the fact that he caught a fish with his bare hands. I think that explains why he's shirtless?

Eden is such a cute girl!

On our way home, we stopped at Payette Lake and watched the cliff jumpers
and Tom took a dip.
We of course had to have a picnic. It would have gotten a higher rating if we could have gotten rid of the bees.
It was a beautiful summer day and a very fun weekend.

Western Idaho State Fair in Boise
and we talked this Dominican boy into going with us
for some yummy greasy fair food.
We enjoyed walking around and seeing the exhibits, catching part of the concert, which was "Foreigner", eating, and walking on the midway.
On the other hand, it just made Taylor excited to get down to school and get an education. I don't think he aspires to be a "carni".
Our friends and neighbors, the Martel's, invited us over for a Dominican dinner.  Their son, McClean also served his mission in the Santo Domingo East mission and ended up marrying a girl from Bayaguana (Taylor's first area). In fact Taylor knew Keyla and her family in Bayaguana.  Keyla fixed us come delicious Dominican food, La bandera, which is stewed chicken, rice, beans and salad plus a delicious fresh squeezed orange juice drink. I brought a Tres Leches Cake and used Sister Hernandez' (Taylor's mission president's wife) recipe.  It was really yummy, but I forgot to take a picture of the cake. It was so fun to talk about the Dominican Republic and share our adventures and pictures.
It finally came time for Taylor to head down to BYU,
so he loaded up his little car and hit the road.
Good luck on your next adventure Taylor!

Ah, Cindy cooking over a campfire. I've heard so many stories- I wish I could see it in person. I LOVED seeing the pictures of John's cute family. Great post of your August. I hope Taylor's doing well in Provo.

What fun! The camping actually looked fun, believe it or not, and I was itching to get an ice cream potato at the fair when I saw your pictures. I haven't gone in 20 years...
