"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

October Odyssey

We love Fall in Idaho with its' beautiful Indian summers, clear blue skies and lots of autumn color in the trees. We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and so we drove north to Donnelly. We stayed at our friend's cabin
(which is really just a beautiful home in the mountains.)
Thursday night we had Trail Creek hotsprings all to ourselves,
well except for the naked hippie in the adjoining hot spring :)
We got up Thursday morning and drove into McCall for a delicious Pancake House breakfast.
We stopped at Last Chance campground along the way
and went for a little hike.
The fall leaves were beautiful!

We love seeing the Tamaracks (yellow pine trees) this time of year.

We drove up to Riggins and the River of no Return.

We saw a sign advertising "elk tacos" so we stopped for a culinary experience.
Unfortunately the elk tacos were sold out so they substituted buffalo meat for the elk. They were actually pretty good! The huckleberry milkshake to wash it all down was delicious!

We saw quite a few power boats with steelhead salmon fishermen
on the Salmon river

We had a beautiful drive.
We even visited Pinehurst, but didn't get to see the Cardon's.
We got back to McCall just in time to make our tee time at the
McCall city golf course.

I hadn't golfed for a couple of years, but it was super fun.
The trees around Payette Lake were beautiful.

We had dinner at the McCall Brewing Company and drove back to Donnelly
The harvest moon coming up over the mountains between
McCall and Donnelly was spectacular!
We went on a hike up to Louie Lake on Saturday morning

It was a little more than I bargained for because it was 2 miles straight up, but once we got there, it was gorgeous.

We hiked through snow to get there.
The fishing was great and Tom caught 3 big fish in about 30 minutes.

We of course had to have a picnic.

Self portrait of me hiking in the snow.

More beautiful tamaracks.

We drove back through McCall on our way to Boise and got home in time to watch BYU's last minute win over Houston!

It was an outstanding October odyssey!
