"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Notes from November

I love November and the Thanksgiving holiday because it gives me an opportunity to count my MANY blessings.
 This year was no different.
I got to see and be with so many of my family members.
The Thanksgiving week started out with a bang when I was able to attend Kay and Ken's farewell.
My sister Kay and her husband Ken were called as missionaries to Sendai, Japan and gave their testimonies in Sacrament meeting on November 22.
I was so happy to realize that Devin and Sarah were headed south to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving with Sarah's family so I hitched a ride to St. George.
I had planned to fly to Denver on November 21 for the Thanksgiving break but switched my ticket to fly out of Las Vegas on November 23 instead.
It was fun spending that Saturday driving down to St. George with Devin and Sarah and family. We listened to the BYU vs. Fresno State game as we drove. BYU won big so that's a blessing to count ;)
I really appreciated them taking the time to stay in St. George and go to Kay and Ken's "farewell" and I appreciated Kay and Ken for letting us all stay at their home. The park right behind Kay and Ken's house has a great playground that Eva and Sophie thought was pretty awesome!
Kay and Ken's testimonies in Sacrament meeting were so inspiring.
Japan is so LUCKY and blessed to get them.
Kay had prepared a delicious feast for all of their family and friends to enjoy after Sacrament meeting.
Michelle and I hurried back home to help get it all set up.
I love this sister of mine.  She has been my best friend my whole life.
She and Ken will be fabulous missionaries but I have to admit that I will really miss her and our texts and emails.
John and Cindy and Patty and Hal also drove down to St. George for Kay and Ken's "farewell'.  Pam and Roger were out of town and we missed them.
It was nice to be with my family, we have too few occasions to get together it seems.

These two will be such a blessing to the people of Japan.
Their testimonies and examples have influenced many in St. George and they will be missed.
I stayed Sunday night in Las Vegas with Michelle and Brian (Kay and Ken's daughter) and family.  They have such a nice home and were so hospitable.  Michelle drove me to the airport on Monday morning for my flight to Denver.
I was happy to finally get to Denver and start our Thanksgiving vacation with the Cardon's.
Tom arrived on Tuesday from Boise so on Wednesday morning, Sara, Tom and I took a walk. You can see it was cold and snowy in Colorado.
Grandpa Tom Tom made delicious pancakes for the Cardon clan for breakfast.
It was so fun that Taylor was also able to fly to Denver for the holiday.
The Cardon kids LOVE Uncle Taylor.
Wednesday we drove into Denver and went to the Science Museum.
Sara bought a yearly pass which got us all in free.
It is a great museum and we had a fun time exploring.
Isn't Zachy so handsome in his new glasses?
Taking a break with Uncle Taylor.
A great view of the Denver skyline from the museum
Lucy loved this exhibit on Poison which featured some Harry Potter info.
We brought a picnic lunch and ate in the Museum cafeteria because it was super cold outside.

Don't step on me Mr. Tyrannosaurus Rex!
We went to VooDoo Doughnuts in downtown Denver after our visit to the Museum.
Taylor was quite impressed.
So was Miss Leah. She couldn't wait to eat her sprinkle doughnut so ate it in the car on our way home.

This picture does not do the donuts justice, they really are delicious!
Wednesday night we went to Crave Burger for some yummy burgers and fries.  Unfortunately there wasn't room inside so we sat out in their patio area and we nearly froze.  You can see we are all wearing our hats and coats, but the food was YUMMY!

Thursday morning we woke up to fresh snow.
That didn't deter these two from playing in Jon and Sara's ward Turkey bowl.
I hear Taylor was the hands down MVP.
The rest of us stayed home and made Turkey cookies and did lots of Thanksgiving feast preparations.
Finally it was time to eat.
Our brined turkey was delicious!!!
A Morris family tradition, Greek Salad.
Yum!
Our turkey carver.
That's what you get for being a doctor Jonathon.
Everything turned out delicious!
This suave gent showed up for the feasting.

After dinner, we were treated to a Thanksgiving play.
Lucy loves history and told us the story of the first Thanksgiving.
After our feasting we headed to the hills for some sledding.
It is nice that the hills are just behind the Cardon's home.
The cold didn't bother this little thing.

Crazy Uncle Beans.

Leah wasn't afraid of sledding with Uncle Taylor

Wipe out!!
Friday we celebrated this guy's 60th birthday!
Jon even packed them a Thanksgiving leftover picnic.

Sara and I held down the fort and made gingerbread houses with the kids.

We found a discount theater and took the kids to see Inside Out

and then met Tom, Taylor and Jon at Mellow Mushroom for some birthday pizza

We went back home for a wild birthday party, complete with "Minute to Win it" games.  The kids loved them.

Then it was time for some mudpie birthday cake!

Saturday morning we headed to Waffle House for Grandpa's favorite breakfast!

Sara then took Tom and I to her Body Pump class and Jon and Taylor took the kids to the gym.
We spent Saturday afternoon shopping at the outlet mall in Castlerock and then Taylor had to head to the airport to fly back to Provo.
The city of Parker does free horse and buggy rides around the city center to see the Christmas lights so we jumped on board.

We took the kids out for a hibachi dinner on Saturday night.
Zach and Lucy loved the show.

After church on Sunday, the kids decorated the Christmas tree

Then it was time for Tom and I to fly back to Boise.  Unfortunately Denver got another snow storm on Sunday, so Jonathan braved the roads and drove us to the very busy airport. After sitting on the runway for over an hour getting de-iced, etc, we finally flew home and arrived back home at 2 am.
We had such a wonderful Thanksgiving with our family.
We feel so blessed to see our children raising their families in the gospel.
One of the highlights of the trip was attending Sara's gospel doctrine class and hearing her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We love our family and we love counting our blessings.

What happy family time you guys had together! It was fun to see the pics and hear about each fun thing you did. That snow probably got you in the mood for the Christmas season, and you did so many memory-making things with the grandkids that they will think back to for the rest of their lives. Sure wish we could have been at Kay and Ken's "farewell" and been with my beloved siblings.

Such great memories and I'm so glad you got to see Ken and Kay off! Maybe you should consider snow birding here in Colorado. It is sunnier here, you know...

You did so many fun things with your family while you were there! I love all of the pictures of each of your adventures. Your Thanksgiving dinner looked delicious! The "Minute to Win It" games looked so fun - what a great idea - you will have to share those with me!
I am so glad that we were able to be together at Kay and Ken's Farewell - you are right - we don't have enough opportunities to all be together. I do love your header picture of all of your cute grandkids!
