"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

No Labor on this Labor Day Weekend

Tom is always looking for an adventure when he has a day off, so for Labor day this year,
we booked a bed and breakfast in Hailey and headed up to Sun Valley.
The forecast was for cooler weather and rain on Friday, but by Saturday things would clear up.
We got to Ketchum on Friday afternoon and headed out on a bike ride on the greenbelt.

We went out to dinner on Friday night at the Pioneer Lodge and then wandered around Sun Valley and listened to the Broadway under the Stars performers.  It was quite chilly so we were glad to have a warm place to stay and not a campsite (at least I was).
Saturday after breakfast we headed up to  Adams Gulch for a mountain bike ride/hike.
Tom rode his bike, and I hiked.
It was a beautiful morning.
After my hike, I went back into town and did a little shopping.
Tom, on the other hand, did a major 2 hour mountain bike ride and ran into a bear and her cub.
Fortunately, he lived to tell the tale.
It was "Wagon Days" in Ketchum, so they had a BIG parade.
It was incredible how many people were in town to watch the parade.
I've never seen so many people in Sun Valley.
We figured it must be some amazing parade.
It wasn't that amazing, just lots of horses, wagons, 1 band from Jerome with 9 band members, a few cheerleaders and beauty queens.
This guy was cool standing on two horses' backs.
There were also some camels?

The highlight of the parade came at the end.
I think there were 9 wagons connected together pulled by a bunch of horses.
Seeing that wagon train turn the corner was pretty impressive.

Still aren't sure why so many people showed up for the parade, but when you live in central Idaho I guess you look for any excuse to party.
We drove back to Boise so I could watch the BYU/Arizona game with Devin on Saturday evening.
On Monday, we drove up to Bogus Basin with some of our friends, Cindy and Brian McMahon, and hiked on the "All Around the mountain" trail.
It was a beautiful, brisk fall day.

There's a little fall color in them thar hills.
We hiked in about 3 miles, with views of the valley below the whole way.
Then we stopped for a picnic.
It was a great picnic.
Then we hiked back out.

We got home mid afternoon and got ready to host a Labor day picnic.
Devin and Sarah and family and Charlie and Lucille were our special guests.
We had grilled terriyaki steak, tin foil potatoes, corn on the cob, zucchini, watermelon,
and home made peach ice cream plus Tommy's birthday cake.

Tommy liked eating outside.
The girls liked swimming in the cold pool
and then warming up in the hot tub.
They had their own special table.

Tommy got in on the swim action.

I think Tommy likes his great grandpa!
We enjoyed our Labor day festivities and any opportunity to get together with friends and family.
