"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

August Adventures!

August started out with a early morning trip to the temple.
We try to go every summer before school starts.
I love these girls!
After the trip to the temple, we came to my house for some delicious crepes

and a swim party!
That same day, Tom and the Priests and Teachers in our ward headed out on their High Adventure.
They had a wonderful trip to our cabin, Island Park and Yellowstone.
While Tom was out of town, Pam and Roger came to town
so I got to have lunch with them at Mai Thai in downtown Boise.
I left for Girl's Camp the next week.
We camped up in Donnelly at Camp Eedahow .
The first night we did some lip syncing.

Our camp was right on Cascade Lake,
it was so pretty!

We went hiking,
and kayaking
and swimming.
Tom came up on Tuesday
We took a little spin on the lake in the kayak.

Time for some crafts!

Don't you love our cool sweatshirts?

The best thing about camp? No drama!
After camp, we celebrated Devin's birthday
and Eva's birthday!
I have a tradition of taking the birthday kid, shopping and out to lunch,
Eva chose going to the mall and the Cheesecake Factory!
Yum!
Tom and I headed to the hills on the weekend before the eclipse.
We worried there would be no campsites, tons of people, etc.
Thankfully that wasn't the case.
We found the perfect camp spot.

Picnicking on the river
Tom can't pass up a hot spring
We drove up and over the mountain to Atlanta.
What a beautiful spot up in the middle of nowhere.

The old school in Atlanta.

It is rugged country

We got home from camping, just in time to drive out to Nampa
and the Outdoor amphitheater at the Idaho Center to hear the Piano Guys.

It was a great concert, and such a beautiful night for a concert.

Monday, August 21, was Eclipse day!
Our neighbors organized an eclipse viewing party.
Jed set up binoculars so you could watch the shadow progression of the moon across the sun.

Plus we had to wear our eclipse glasses

After the eclipse, we had a backyard barbecue at our house

Taylor and his friend Michaela came for a visit after the eclipse.
They got to watch the eclipse up in Stanley where it was 100%.
I guess it was amazing.
Michaela and I took time to go get a pedicure

We also went to the Western Idaho Fair.
Yum grilled chicken pitas and a Hawaiian noodle bowl.
Isn't fair food the reason you go to a fair?

We also got to hear Huey Lewis and the News.
Our friends, Rick and Aline Hurst saved us seats which was so nice
because over 12,000 were at the free concert.

After the concert we checked out the pavillion where we found Eva's entry.
She got 2nd place!
Woohoo!

We took a walk along the midway
Tom needed one last corn dog
and of course we had to sample the ice cream baked potato!

Each year in August, Tom and I help with the Boise Chapter of the BYU Alumni association's biggest fundraiser, the Golf Tournament. We raise money for replenishment scholarships.
Last year we gave out 5 half tuition full year scholarships.
Tom was the chair this year and did a great job organizing the tournament.
He was also MC during the luncheon which was catered free by Tucanos.
We had almost 80 golfers and made around $6000 which BYU will match this year!
Wahoo!

Laura (the new Boise chapter chair) and I buzzing around the golf course.
Taylor's best friend and roommate got married the end of August.
Devin presented Colton with this T-shirt
(which Colton had given Devin when he got married).
You can see Teresa wasn't too thrilled about it.
Lots of Colton's and Taylor's friends from Provo came for the wedding.
We had 20 kids staying at our house on Friday night
and Taylor threw a big pool party after the reception which included
showing the movie "Jaws" in the backyard.
The temple sealing was Saturday morning

Later that afternoon we took a bikeride on the greenbelt

It was a beautiful day!
You can see Tommy loved it!

Afterward we had dinner at the Westside Drive Inn

Eva's official birthday was on Sunday, August 27, so after Sunday dinner,
Sarah made a delicious key lime pie (Eva's favorite) to celebrate Eva!
To close out the month of August,
the Laurels learned how to bake bread at my friend Patricia's house.

Patricia's an amazing baker and now hopefully we are too!
Lastly, but not leastly (not sure that's a word)
my friend Lorri and I went to the BYU vs. BSU women's volleyball match.
BYU won in straight sets but it was an exciting match and it was fun to
support the Cougars in a sport they are actually good at ;)

Are you sure you didn't leave anything out? I could use a corn dog and an Idaho ice cream potato about now. I thought for sure seeing Huey Lewis live singing "The Power of Love" would seal the deal for Taylor and his lady, but alas, it wasn't to be. Turns out Taylor's favorite song is "Hip to be Square."

Wow you had a very busy month! You are such an awesome YW President - hosting and making crepes for the girls. That goes way beyond a regular lunch!
With camping and birthday parties, the fair . . . You and Tom lead very busy lives! I love all of your pictures of your cute grandkids and especially your blog picture with Tom and the grands!!
