"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

We jammed a lot into June!

June started out with a bang with a 92nd birthday celebration for Grandpa Charlie.
We took him cake and ice cream and celebrated with Devin and Sarah and family.
The kids love Grandma and Grandpa Charlie.

We ended our visit with a baseball game in the backyard.

The following weekend, Tom and I had a fun date to downtown Boise.
We ate sandwiches at Even Stephens and then explored
Freak Alley

I am still serving on the Boise Chapter Alumni board which means
we helped out at the Cougar 5K Fun Run and Breakfast.
I love that Devin's kids are true blue!

Devin and Tom helped cook the blue pancakes and I helped check people in.
We had a great turnout.
Tom also was the MC
Tommy did great in the kids race
We got tickets to the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan concert that night at Taco Bell Arena
It was a great concert and pretty funny to see all the old people (like us)
rocking out.

For the first time in 39 years of marriage, Tom took the day off to celebrate my 60th birthday!
We drove out to the Owyhee desert for an odyssey.

We went on a hike and had a fabulous picnic

See those little black dots on the road and the slime tire marks?
Those are Mormon crickets and smashed Mormon crickets.
They were all over the place.
We got home from our odyssey and got ready to go to dinner
at Chandler's in downtown Boise.
Tom had reserved us a spot and chose Chandler's
because on Trip Advisor, it is the #1 restaurant in Boise.
It is famous for it's steaks but I had the halibut and it was delicious!
This chocolate souffle  was free for my birthday!

Tom made me this delicious chocolate bundt cake and
Devin, Eva and Sophie came over when we got home
from the restaurant for a 60th birthday celebration.
Nothing like 2 desserts on your birthday.
My friends took me to lunch at the Cheesecake Factory on the following
Thursday to celebrate my birthday.
 Yum, salted caramel cheesecake.
The next day, Tom and I flew to Phoenix at 6 am.
Whitney picked us up at the airport and we stopped at
Top Golf for a little rest and relaxation before we
began the drive up to Utah.
Tom was really good at it, but Whitney and I were not.
We stopped for lunch at our favorite Raising Canes and then loaded up the truck.
Whitney actually had everything almost done.
We just had to carry out a few of her belongings.
Tom, the trucker

Goodbye Whitney's apartment and Arizona.
We stopped at Navajo Bridge on our journey.
The Colorado river cut this beautiful canyon.

We made it to St. George around 9 pm and Kay and Ken kindly let us crash their house.
It was Kay's birthday the next morning, so we all went to breakfast at
the Bearpaw diner.
Kay with her birthday sundae.

We hit the road again and headed up to Salt Lake where we found Whitney's new school,
Grant Elementary,
where she will be an instructional coach over the teachers in grade K-6.
Whitney's new apartment.
I love the yellow door.
It is a newly renovated duplex with a cute kitchen, living room and two bedrooms on the main floor,
and a big basement with another living room, bedroom and bathroom and laundry/storage room.
We found a ward to attend in SLC on Sunday, then hit the road again and drove back to Boise.
It was a very long 3 days, but rewarding to get Whitney closer to home.
Midweek, Tom used a groupon coupon that he bought and went Go-carting.
I think he now wants to be a race car driver
Whitney drove us to Boise and stayed a couple of weeks with us,
so she and I went to the Incredibles while
Tom went on a campout with the YM and YW of our ward.
After dinner one night we drove to downtown Boise to sample some Chips
cookies hot out of the oven.
Can I say "YUM"!
Missy and Jedd bought a boat this summer and they invited us to go
boating for FHE.
Missy made us ham and cheese sammies for dinner and we enjoyed a picnic on Lake Lowell.
It was very windy.

But that didn't discourage Ellie and Whitney from tubing.

Whitney helped me put together this cute Halloween quilt.
I hadn't bought the pattern book when I bought the fabric and Whitney's mathematical skills
helped me figure out how to make the skeleton houses.
We took Whitney camping the last weekend in June.
We drove up to Grand Jean and found a beautiful campsite
and enjoyed a picnic lunch and set up camp.

We went on a beautiful hike.

Those are the Sawtooths peaking out in the back.

Tom and I snuck off to Sacjewea hot springs before breakfast.
It was the perfect way to start the day.

Tom made us some delicious pancakes with coconut syrup for breakfast.
Yum!

Whitney modeling her sleepwear.
We went on another hike on Saturday morning.
It was right along the river and beautiful!

Sego lillies

Perfect picnic on our way home to Boise.

It was a great kick off month to summer with lots of activities jammed in, but
July offers even more summer fun.
