"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Nonstop August!

Summer is a busy time of year around here and in August we burned the candle at both ends.
Tom led an epic back packing trip to the Sawtooths with
Devin, Jon, Whitney and her new roommate, Tara, and our friends the Andersons.

They all had a fabulous time!

I drove back to Salt Lake with Whitney after her backpacking
adventure.  Whitney had purchased a piano for her new apartment.
We got to her apartment on Sunday evening and on Monday the piano was delivered.

Happy girl!
In the afternoon we shopped and then went to lunch at
the Copper Onion in downtown SLC.

On Tuesday we took a trip north and stopped and got some
cookies at Ruby Snap
to enjoy along the way.
YUM!

Whitney and I drove to Logan and visited the new Ogden temple
along the way
We also stopped at the Brigham City Temple.
We ate lunch at the Bluebird.

Then met Shonna and family at the Logan cemetery

Little Hannah took a liking to Whitney
We got back to Salt Lake later that afternoon and went to dinner
at Spitz, a yummy Mediterranean restaurant

On Wednesday Whitney took me on a tour of SLC
We drove out to the Great Salt Lake

Then had a delicious lunch at Sweetlake Biscuits and Limeade

It was delicious!

We drove downtown after lunch and toured the Church History museum

Whitney has become quite a quilter
She chose each of these fabrics from her trip to the deep south
for her friend Ruth Ann's wedding in Alabama.

Here's my Halloween quilt all finished

We celebrated Devin's birthday with a float trip down the Cabarton stretch of the Payette River
It was so fun!

Sarah and Tom took a swim in the river when we were done.

For Sunday dinner I served Devin's favorite, CDB's
but I think I made it with strawberries instead of cherries.

We also celebrated Eva's birthday with a lunch date and a shopping trip.
Eva chose to go to the Cheesecake factory for lunch.
The waitress even sang to her when she brought her yummy cheesecake.
It was delicious! After lunch we went shopping at Target and got her some school clothes.
We found time to drive up to the Starlight Mountain Theatre in Garden Valley with our friends.
We saw Grease.  It was such a fun FHE activity

We stopped for a picnic along the way.
Kimberly and Lorri got a kiss from Danny Zuko

Tom and I took Sophie on a campout up to Bergdorf
It was so fun to have some one on one time with her.

We had the hot springs to ourselves for a while.

Bergdorf is such a funky, old, place.

Sophie taking a dip in the bathtub!

We took a hike to Chrystal Mountain where we found lots of rocks!

Then we hiked to Deep Lake
where this squirrel enjoyed Sophie's lunch

and I recovered from heatstroke.

We had a delicious dutch oven pizza dinner
and that night enjoyed a Bluegrass concert at the hot springs;
before it started pouring rain!

Our home away from home.
We took Grandpa Charlie to the Western Idaho State Fair.
My Mexican corn and tacos al pastor were delicious!
Charlie at age 92, did great walking all over the fairgrounds
We had the missionaries to dinner.
Elder Arruda is from Hawaii and we met his parents in Hilo when we visited Patty and Hal.

To and I helped at the BYU Scholarship Golf Tournament.
We help every year.
While the golfers golfed, Laura Bird (the Boise chapter chair) and I drove around and took pictures.
Tucanos caters lunch afterwards.
We had a record number of golfers, 92 and raised $10,000 this year!

The last weekend in August we drove over to Island Park so Devin, Sarah and family could spend a weekend at the cabin.
Whitney joined us from Utah.
We took an awesome hike right along the border of Idaho and Montana,

and had a picnic lunch at Harriman state park.
Who knew, Tommy likes pickles.
Sophie
Eva
and Sarah took a trail ride in Harriman

We love this view of the Snake River from the cabin.
Tom built a fire and we had s'mores for dessert.

Tommy loved roasting his marshmallow.

Yum, s'mores are good!

The kids love throwing rocks and playing Pooh sticks on the dock.

On Eva's official birthday, August 27, we met for dinner in
downtown Boise at Flatbread Pizza
where the kids get to make their own pizza's and put them in the oven to bake.
Eva and her friend Ruby

After dinner we walked down to BoDo for some yummy icecream at The Stil.
I think Tommy liked his?

Cute pictures Sarah took of the kids walking in downtown Boise.

What a wonderful month celebrating summer and family.

Wow! Nonstop is right! I learned so much. I didn't know Ruth anne got married. She stayed with us once. I didn't know Whitney quilts. And I didn't know you met Shonna and kids. You got so many fun pictures.
