We got home from England on General Conference weekend and jumped right back into real life.
Sophie turned 8 at the end of September so was baptized the weekend
after General Conference.
Devin and Sarah got permission to have their own family baptism for Sophie so on Friday night
we gathered at the Bogus Basin chapel in Boise.
After the baptism Sarah and her cute Mom and friends put together a fun table full of treats!
Tommy was first in line.
Tommy was first in line.
Our beautiful Sophie Joan.
We are so proud of her!
I think it is so sweet that she and Eva have both worn
the dress Sarah wore at her baptism.
Whitney surprised everyone and drove to Idaho for the baptism.
Sophie was thrilled to see Aunt Whitney.
Whitney and I went on a hike on Saturday morning
and then picked up Sophie and took her to breakfast at the Black Bear Diner.
That night we took Whitney out to dinner at a hip restaurant in downtown Boise, Eureka!
We had fun wandering around Freak Alley,
Tom the one and only Lone Wolf
Whitney drove back to SLC after church on Sunday,
it was so nice having her home for the weekend to
celebrate such a special event!
Every Monday morning I go on a 5 mile hike with my friends
at 7:30 in the morning.
We hike to this nature preserve.
I love seeing it change through the seasons.
The light is so beautiful that time of day at least in October.
Since Tom and I spent two weeks in England at the end of September/October
we hadn't had the chance of going on our yearly
fall mountain excursion to see the fall leaves.
We found a free Friday so packed a picnic and headed out.
We drove up to the banks of the Payette River
and had a beautiful sunny picnic.
Further up the road outside of Garden Valley we found a hot spring.
This guy loves a hotspring.
We took the back road from Garden Valley to Placerville.
It was a beautiful drive through the trees.
Placerville had gone all out decorating for Halloween.
We went to a couple of Capital high school football games in October
to support one of the young men from the ward who's on the team.
We also watched this little football player score some touchdowns.
And we got free tickets to the BSU vs. Colorado State football game.
We're not big BSU fans but it was a beautiful fall night
and who doesn't like watching a game on the smurf turf?
More hiking pictures. We also go hiking in the foothills on Fridays.
Another beautiful fall day in Boise!
I still serve on the Boise BYU Alumni board so when BYU came to town
to play BSU I helped with the tailgate party.
I arrived at 3 pm and helped get the parking lot of an LDS church close to the stadium
all set up so we could begin selling food tickets for a hot dog dinner
from 5-7 pm. We had a great turnout, over 400 fans came to support the Cougs.
I can't believe this is the only picture I took.
These are the BYU cheerleaders. Cosmo also came along with President Worthen
and Vice president Richardson.
Devin and Sarah were able to get away on a fantastic
trip to Europe, so we got to babysit the kids the weekend they left
and the weekend Sarah got home.
They left on a Saturday and Sarah's sister Julie arrived on Tuesday
and watched the kids until Sunday morning when she flew home.
Sarah arrived back in Boise on Monday night.
The first Monday night we had the kids we carved pumpkins since it was right before Halloween.
They had lots of pumpkins so Grandpa went to town
pulling the guts out and the kids carved.
I think they turned out so cute!
The Tuesday Julie got here we had a date to see the Lion King with a few of our friends.
We had great seats and it was a marvelous show!
The next night was Halloween so we headed up to
Hidden Springs and roamed their fun neighborhood with a cute
Cookie Monster, Black Cat and Ant Man.
Aunt Julie was so nice to get them all fixed up
October was Awesome!

What a great month! Congratulations to Sophie. A picnic and a hot spring . . .what could be better? So Sophie's still playing football? That's great.
you got some great pics this month - loved the ones in that painted graffiti neighborhood. The lone wolf totally fit Tom and Joan, you looked like a beautiful angel with wings! What fun you have with your grandkids in the great outdoors and what loyal Cougs you are!
Sophie is such a pretty girl - just like her grandma Joan! She has grown up so much since I saw her last! Joan, you are amazing-hiking 5 miles! You are a great BYU fan and the alumni association is blessed to have you!
Thanks for doing this Joan (angel?). Think of all of the things we would forget if you didn't faithfully put them in our blog.
