"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Iron Chef, Young Single Adult Style

Friday night, the YSA branch that Tom serves in the branch presidency of, had their own version of Iron Chef. Each of the 3 teams was given a bag of groceries and then had an hour to go to their assigned house and come up with a dish or dishes using all of the ingredients. Each grocery bag contained the same things except for the protein. Group one had hamburger, group two had tuna fish, and group 3 had chicken. We were in group 3,so group 3 came to our house and we brainstormed for possible ways to creatively use the tomato sauce, cream of mushroom soup, pineapple, one carrot, one cucumber, a can of beans, a package of macaroni and cheese, grated cheese and the chicken. You were also welcome to use ingredients from the kitchen you were cooking in. After much thought and discussion we decided to do our own version of Malibu chicken (Myrtle beach chicken). We breaded the chicken and fried it, then put the pineapple on top and covered it with swiss cheese and baked it. We made a salad and added the pineapple juice to the pear viniagrette dressing we had and used the cucumber and carrot in that and then our last side dish was the macaroni and cheese with cream of mushroom soup, beans, cheese, and topped it with crushed cheese nip crackers. We served the chicken on a platter garnished with tomato sauce. Here's our creations:
We met back at the Grange's house and tasted all the other team's dishes and then rated them, giving them 1-5, points depending on how good they were. Needless to say, the "Myrtle Beach Chicken" took home the Iron Chef award. Yippee!! I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that we got the chicken. Anyway, it was a fun activity.

Congratulations! That sounds good! The macaroni and cheese sounded a big strange, though. What a fun activity.

Ummm, yeah....I'm with Aunt Kay. Some of that food sounds really nasty. Tuna fish?? Gross. I don't even want to know what they did!!

What makes you think Joan was the winner? It was my team and I was the head chef. Actually, I was asked to leave when some of my extremely creative suggestions were not appreciated. What would be so bad about deep fried macaroni, pineapple and bean skewers?
