"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Spring Piano Recital
Last night was my spring piano recital. I have 15 piano students and for the recital, each student has to memorize a solo piece (of their choosing, some choose pop, some classical, some jazz). It is always a challenge to get them ready for the recital, because not only do they have to memorize their solo piece, but they also learn a duet piece that they play with me. Three of my students had conflicts and didn't participate in the recital, but all the rest of them, except one (she got sidetracked with jazz choir tryouts), got their piece memorized and did a fantastic job at the recital. It was very rewarding to hear how well they each performed.
I am going to offer a few lessons this summer, but summer lessons are pretty laid back so it will be a nice break til next fall. I love my students and love teaching piano lessons.

You are amazing!! How do you have time for all those students and keep your house perfect, travel to see grandkids, and serve in the church? I can barely get dressed everyday!
Congratulations on another great year of teaching! Looks like a good group.
I didn't know that you taught so many students! That is great; I agree with Tricia. . . I don't know how you do it all!
Hi Joan & Tom,
I'm such a techno looser that I only recently found my blog comments, including yours, which linked me up to your blog. Pretty fun to catch up on your family!
Whitney in Russia--is this your brother-in-law's mission? Send her with more clothes than the list says. You get very tired of wearing the same stuff, and even if you can have it made, you don't have time. There are so many unknowns in going off to a foreign land, definitely a leap of faith.
All that being said, she's in for a magnificent experience. I LOVE the sister missionaries here in Cebu! For one thing, I get to hug them. For another they teach with power and authority. I've been out teaching with them a few times. They are women of great faith, and they get great results. Our blessings as she goes forth.
Piano lessons. Anything you'd like to pass along? I'm all ears. It's a lot of fun, me and my 21 students ranging from 10 to ??(mothers). They are for the most part very eager and grateful to learn. I have keyboards coming from Salt Lake, as most of them have nothing to practice on at home and the church isn't widely available. All they've learned so far is how to read rhythm and note recognition. A few of them are actually at the keyboard.
This is a loooong comment, but couldn't resist with this easy venue. Thanks for checking on us, and do it again. Cut grandbabies! How many?
Blessings,
Ann & Kevin
Good for you! Sounds like your piano recital was a success! You have quite a few students, and they all seem to be very nice kids.
I especially like those kids b/c they support your habit. Your visiting grand-babies habit, that is.:) Good job!!
That's awesome! I'm impressed they memorize 2 numbers, one of which being a duet with you. That means you learn a whole lot of songs, good work.
