"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Halloween Hauntings in Philly and Richmond
I had a wonderful fall trip back east to visit Sara and Jon and family in Philadelphia for two days and then I took the train down to Richmond and spent 5 days with Sarah, Devin and Eva. It was a Grandma Joanie dream trip come true. I flew out of Boise and had connections in Salt Lake City and Denver. The flight in Denver was delayed by an hour due to a crazy snowstorm in Denver. Thankfully I made it to Philly and didn't end up spending the night snowed in in an airport. I spent a fun day with Sara running errands to Costco and driving through Valley Forge to see the fall leaves. We also went to the Ward Halloween Party so I got to see Zachy and Lucy all dressed up in their Halloween costumes. Lucy even won a cake in the cake walk. It was fun to see and meet all of Lucy and Sara's friends. I got up early on Friday morning and took an Amtrak train down to Richmond. It was a fun adventure to ride the train through the beautiful fall countryside. We went right through downtown Washington DC where I saw the Capitol building, Smithsonian, Washington monument and Jefferson memorial. Sarah and Eva picked me up in Richmond and we picked Devin up for lunch and ate at a cute french cafe. We drove to Charlottesville on Saturday and toured the Monticello plantation. We got back in time for Eva to get dressed up and go trick or treating. Monday, Sarah drove me to Fredericksburg so we could tour the Civil War battlefields. I loved it. We spent the day driving through the Virginia countryside. We picked Devin up for dinner and ate at a cute pizza place in downtown Richmond and then we drove across town to visit Aaron, Carina and Adam at their cute new home. Sarah, Eva and I shopped on Tuesday and took a beautiful walk across the James River and to Belle Isle. We had an authentic Indian food dinner with Devin and Sarah's neighbors Joe and Mary. It was so delicious and so fun to meet their neighbors and learn about them. Wednesday we drove around Richmond and saw the Hollywood Cemetery and the campus of VCU and then headed to Raleigh so I could catch my plane back home. We stopped and ate lunch at a "Chick filet" in Petersburg right outside Fort Lee where my Mom and Dad were stationed. We made it to Durham and Sarah took me on a quick tour of the Duke campus where I got to go inside Cameron Indoor Arena. It was great to get to see it in person! Sarah drove me to the airport in Raleigh and I had an uneventful flight home. It was a great trip with lots of beautiful fall leaves, history, and great family memories. Thanks, Sara, Jon, Devin and Sarah for your hospitality!!

We had so much fun with you here and our home just isn't the same with out you! Come back soon! We've already started our list of things to see on your next trip.
Looks like Richmond was a blast!! I'm glad you got to see your grand babies all dressed up for Halloween.:)
Truly a Grandma Joanie dream trip!! I'm so glad you had a good time.
Hey, just stumbled onto this site/blog so I thought I would leave a guest comment. What a nice family. It sounds like you had such a wonderful time back east. Wow, you must have the world's greatest husband! Hard to believe he lets a cute middle aged women like you run around the country all the time visiting grandkids (weren't you just in Philly and New York like two months ago?)while he keeps the home fire burning. It almost sounds like visiting grand kids has become your full time job! Ha Ha. Well, all I can say is you better hang onto that man. He's one of a kind.
Tom Richards from Baltimore
I think I married a comedian ;}, but yes, I better hang onto that man from Baltimore, he is pretty good to me.
What a fun trip!!! You are such a lucky Grandma :) It looks like you had fun with all the beautiful grandchildren, as well as seeing some amazing places :) Good for you!
Looks like a fun trip! I think you need to tell my Mom visiting grandkids is better than Hawaii... since she had not been here to see me yet!
