We love spending Spring Break in southern Utah. The weather is so much better than in Boise at this time of year. Taylor and I left for Utah on Sunday, March 28 after attending baby Anderson's baby blessing and the luncheon at Missy's house. It was fun being with Missy's cute family. She made Cafe Rio pork salad for dinner and it was delicious. We drove to Spanish Fork and got there in time to go to Allison and Jon's home and celebrate Alex's 9th birthday. It was so fun to see all the Mickelsen family. Taylor's friend Reed joined us on Monday morning (he rode the Greyhound bus all night and we picked him up in Provo). Taylor and Reed spent the day at BYU touring the campus, going to the Bookstore, going to some classes, and hanging out with one of Taylor's friends in the dorm. They had a great time. Taylor is so excited to be a BYU student. Patty and I shopped and ate lunch at Paradise Bakery (in honor of Whitney)and did sister stuff.

Patty was such a great hostess and made us a yummy roast beef dinner and then strawberry waffles for breakfast before we left on Tuesday morning. We drove down to St. George after breakfast and arrived in time to eat at In and Out Burgers. Man, that place does quite the business, but it was good!

We arrived in St. George and were welcomed with 78 degree weather. It was wonderful!! It was also a treat to watch American Idol with Kay. She is quite the educated critic so we had a great time reviewing each contestant and then writing up our
review.
Wednesday morning we got up and hiked up Webb Hill.

It is my favorite hike and the hill is right behind Kay and Ken's house. It offers a beautiful view of St. George and the surrounding valley. Later that morning, I got to go to Keynote's (Kay's musical group)with Kay. She is such a great director and has such a talented group of singers. It is always a treat to attend with her. We met Pam for lunch at the Bear Paw and then spent the afternoon shopping.

I drove to Las Vegas on Thursday and picked Tom up at the airport. We then drove out to a new community called Aliante and did some house hunting for Sara and Jon.

It will be a nice area for them next summer when they move to Las Vegas.
We went to dinner at a great Italian restaurant called Carlucci's

and spent the night at the Las Vegas Hilton. We ate at the Paris buffet for breakfast. It is our favorite treat.

We drove back to St. George and picked Reed and Taylor up and drove out to Snow Canyon. There's no better place for hiking and climbing on red rocks!

Kristen and Jared and their cute family drove down from Provo on Thursday so it was fun seeing and being with them. Friday night we had a wonderful Family Ancestor Dinner. Pam, Kay and I had decided on a menu when we went out to lunch together earlier in the week. We had Pork with prunes and apricots, Grandma Inga's Norwegian meatballs, two types of potatoes, swedish cucumbers, Grandma Beena's rolls, Asparagus with nutmeg and browned butter.

We even toasted all our countries of origin with Lignonberry punch.

For dessert we had a Swedish Orange Cake and Jared made two South African desserts, Custard slice and Lemon Meringue pie.

They were both a hit.
Saturday I hiked back up "my mountain"

and then we all listened to Conference. In between sessions we went on a picnic! After the priesthood session we got Cafe Rio takeout and had yummy burritos and salads for dinner.
Sunday morning, after the Easter Bunny came (droppings and all)

we packed up the car and headed back up to Boise! Thanks Kay and Ken and Patty and Hal for hosting us. We had a wonderful week and can't wait til next year! We love Spring Break, St. George style!!

Hi Joan,
Sounds like a fun and delicious weekend! I am so glad you had a good time. I love all your pictures!
Wow, sounds like a busy fun-filled week! I'm guessing you also got to see baby Ella, which I'm jealous of!
Joan, it looks like all you ever do is eat and hike. You go girl!
Mom, this blog is basically a travel journal since every two weeks you are on your way to some place new. You've got quite the life. I'm afraid to let Sarah ever teach piano lessons or anything else that might give her a little income for fear that she will turn into you and I'll only see her occasionally amidst her travels...
A fun time was had by all! You did a great job recapping it. We crammed a lot in there, didn't we?
Looks like a fun Spring break! Can I come next year?
Man, you had such a great week!! All I know is I"m there next year, and I'm insisting on the Scotcharoos.
It was so nice to see you all again. I feel like it has been ages since I saw Taylor and he is SUCH an awesome young man. You should be proud of the amazing children you raised. What are your secrets?!?
Thanks for sharing your springbreak with us!
Holy cow. There is so much good food in this post! First the In'n'Out, then, Carluccio's (my best friend's all-time favorite restaurant), then the Paris buffet, the ancestor dinner... it goes on and on. Yum! I'm glad Sara is looking at Aliente. I've only been out there once but I think that will be a great place for them.
