"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

So Many Things to be Thankful for!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! We were so happy that Whitney was home from Russia this Thanksgiving and able to spend Thanksgiving day with us. All of our other kids were clear across the country, Taylor in the Dominican Republic and Devin and Sarah and Sara and Jon's family were vacationing together in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Since Whitney was our "only" child, she got to do all of our bidding, like cooking, setting the tables, decorating our home for Christmas, hanging Christmas lights, raking leaves, etc. She probably wished she was still in Russia. We were so THANKFUL to her for all of her help and for her positive attitude and willingness to serve.
We hosted the Morris family for Thanksgiving dinner. We had to have it early in the day (12:30 pm) because Tom had to perform a marriage at 3:30 out in Nampa. It was so nice to have Grandma and Grandpa Charlie, Christie and Omar and family, Steve and Michelle, Ryan and Rachel and Megan and Chad and family.

Everyone brought delicious food and our brined turkey turned out GREAT! Everyone helped clean up so that we could be on our way at 3 pm to head to Nampa. The Bishop did a fantastic job at the wedding and Larry and Corey were so happy to be married on Thanksgiving day with all of their children together.
We did a little bit of shopping over the weekend and managed to avoid the Black Friday chaos. Thankfully we were able to get our Christmas lights hung outside and all of our decorations up inside. THANK YOU WHITNEY! I had decided not to even decorate for Christmas this year since we will be spending Christmas in North Carolina with all of our kids, but Tom volunteered our home for the lawfirm Christmas party, so that foiled my plans. It is nice to have our home all ready for the holidays.
Saturday we headed to the hills for a picnic and a hike to the hot springs. Unfortunately, 13 other people had the same idea so after climbing the mountain to the hot springs, we chose to forget the soak in the hotsprings with 13 other people and we turned around and hiked back out. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed the hike and the drive up to the mountains.
We met Lucille and Charlie for dinner at Louie's Saturday night and celebrated Tom-Tom's birthday at one of his favorite restaurants.
Today is his big day and he has spent most of it in meetings, but Whitney and I surprised the Bishopric this morning with cinnamon rolls (Whitney made them at midnight last night) during their meeting. Happy Birthday Tom! May there be many more!

Just to set the record straight - Whitney did NOT hang any outdoor lights or rake any leaves because she was too busy helping her mom. But for the record, it was fun having her home and I love her!!!!

It was so fun to "see" and hear about your weekend. It was a busy one! I'm glad all went well and that Whitney could be with you. I SO need Whitney here. Happy birthday to Tom!

I always love a good "opps" comment under the spouses name. The best was when "John" told me how good I looked or something like that... haha. Anyway, back to this post that is making my mouth water. I saw the pretzel salad and now I'm counting the minutes until my next meal. We'll have to do that one for Christmas. I can't wait for our Christmas cooking. That is one thing I missed this year. Maybe we should do a traditional meal one of the days for us slacker beach bums. :) We are so excited to have all of you out here for Christmas! We are going to make sure you all have a great time and that Whitney gets to take a break.

Unfortunately Whitney will NOT take a break while in NC. She should rest up right now. I will see to it she's MOmmy Jr. all 3 weeks she's here.:) Love you Whit! Also, Dad did a wedding... Still think that's so great-- bet he never imagined he'd at that one to his resume. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Lone Wolf. Finally, I agree with SP that we may have to include a traditional meal into the Christmas mix for us beach bums.
