"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Mesa Falls Fun Run
Whitney has started running and to keep her motivated through the summer, she signed up to participate in the 10K Mesa Falls Fun Run in Ashton, Idaho. Tom and I thought we'd better support her in her worthy endeavor so we signed up too. Tom to run the 10K and me to run the 5K. Our neighbor's, the Manwaring's, have participated in the Mesa Falls marathon and half marathon for the past few years, so they also signed up to run the half marathon.
Tom and I drove up to the cabin on Friday morning and took a hike in Harriman State Park around Silver Lake. It was beautiful.
We saw this family of trumpeter swans
and this moose right beside the trail.
Whitney and her friend Kiera drove to the cabin from Provo and arrived at the cabin late Friday night. We had to get up early on Saturday morning and drive from the cabin into Ashton to be at the starting line at 7:30 am. It was 28 degrees outside when we left the cabin. BRRR. By the time the race started it was 38, but much too early and too cold to be running.
Ready, set, go!
The finish line! Tom ran with Whitney the whole way and entertained her with Ashton stories.
My race started at 8 am and the half marathon started at 8:30 am, so we were all finished well before the half marathoners. Here we all are at the finish line, Amy, Saylor, Jed and Patricia ran the half-marathon. Patricia won her age division of course.
After the race, we enjoyed free huckleberry milkshakes and then Jed (who was born and raised in Ashton) took us on a tour of the Big city. We all spent the afternoon and evening together at the cabin. We took a hike into Sheep Falls,
and then had dinner together out on the deck of the cabin. It was a very fun weekend and we are now training to all compete in the Mesa Falls half marathon next year. Yikes!

Next year, I'm going to run so fast the ice won't collect on my hat. Who start's a fun run in the mountains at 7:30 am? What, did the organizers need to get this over with so they could go milk the cows and move some pipe?
Well Tom-Tom, you said it. The cows were calling. 28 degrees sounds mighty fine to me after the 100th day of 90 degree heat and 90% humidity. And I thought September would be better. Congrats to the runners, I am duly impressed. Looks like an awesome weekend to end summer on!
Congratulations, guys! You did it! Love the pic of the moose - what a pretty area of Idaho!

Yikes, is right! Good for you- all of you! So proud! The pictures are just gorgeous. Ken particularly liked the swans.
Congratulations to all of you! I'm proud of you! The setting does look beautiful!
