"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

European Vacation (Salzburg)

We left Prague on Friday morning and at the suggestion of our hotel concierge we took a side trip on our drive into Austria and stopped at a little medieval town called Cesky Krumlov.  It was definitely worth the stop.
You couldn't drive into the old town, so we parked our car
on the outskirts and walked in.
We kept saying, this looks just like Disneyland, we couldn't believe that such a quaint place with a real live castle existed.

I kept singing "There goes the baker with his tray, like always
The same old bread and rolls to sell
Ev'ry morning just the same
Since the morning that we came
To this poor provincial town"
from Beauty and the Beast.
Yes, Devin, I know Beauty and the Beast was in France and we were in the Czech Republic, but it was quaint just the same.

We walked around and I did a little shopping for a couple of hours and then we found a place to eat lunch.
They don't believe in "fast food" in Europe,
but this little roadside restaurant fit the bill.
What a setting.
No salad or sandwiches for lunch in the Czech Republic,
meat and potatoes are the only option.
We arrived in Salzburg, Austria late Friday afternoon.  We got checked into our hotel room which was right down town and started exploring.
In one word, Salzburg is BEAUTIFUL!
First stop, Mirabell Gardens, where the song "Do Re Mi" was filmed for the Sound of Music.

The bridge into the old town. Notice the locks.
The "lovers" in Europe love to put locks on
bridges to signify their commitment.
It was so fun walking through the old town.
We loved these iron decorative signs on all the businesses.
Mozart was born and raised in Salzburg.
Again, a photo any direction you turn.

We wandered around until dark.

We had to stop for a "gelato" on our way home after all that walking.
The next morning we had planned to do a "bike tour" of the Sound of Music sights in Salzburg, but it was threatening rain, so Tom looked at the map and said, "I can take you on a Sound of Music" tour, so we loaded into the car and headed out.
We drove towards Hallstatt.
Austria is breathtakingly beautiful
I LOVED it~

St. Gilgan, where Mozart's mother was born.

They had plenty of lederhosen and dirndls for sale.

I'd be happy living in Hallstatt (at least for the summer)
It is so beautiful

Our picnic spot on the banks of the lake.
Needless to say, it was a 10!

Rocking my BYU shirt.
Cougars around the world!

A beautiful girl and a beautiful setting.
We took the funicular railway straight up the mountain to a salt mine.
The views were breath taking!

This guy pointed the way to the salt mine.

Train tracks straight up
and straight down
Our next stop on the tour was Mondsee
where Maria and Captain Von Trapp were married
in "The Sound of Music"

Beautiful isn't it??
Our new wheels

Last stop on the tour was the Hellbrunn Castle
You'll recognize some of these places from the movie

I am Sixteen going on Seventeen

The Salzburg Castle high on the hill

And we had to have a little bite of "gelato" before we ended our tour

I'd rate Salzburg and Hallstatt as some of my favorite places in the world!

Oh my goodness, what gorgeousness! I don't think there is anywhere more beautiful than where you went, and you took great pics! I'm having fun reliving your trip with you and I love your 4th of July format, Joan!

Yes, yes, two of the best places on earth. We've been to most of those same places and have similar pictures. I have one on my kitchen countertop taken at that fountain in Hallstott. I am loving going to Europe with you!
