"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

European Vacation (Prague)

Wow, what do I say about Prague, or as the Czech's call it "Praha"? The pictures tell the best story. It is "the city with 1,000 spires". Everywhere you look you want to take a picture.  We arrived in Prague on Wednesday afternoon, checked into our quaint little hotel and started touring.

First stop, the Charles Bridge

The receptionist at our hotel suggested this authentic
Czech restaurant for some great, cheap food.
It really was delicious!
The official food of the Czech Republic, roast beef in a delicious gravy, bread dumplings with cranberry and whipped cream on top.
They even had Sachre Torte cheaper than in Austria.
King Wenceslas Square, yup, there really was a good King Wenceslas.

Tom's favorite thing was walking around at sunset and after dark.
They lit the castle up and all the statues on the bridge.
See what I mean about a picturesque scene everywhere you turn.

The next morning, my birthday, we headed to the town square and hired a tour guide to take us on a "3 hour tour" (think Gilligan's Island because it lasted a bit longer than that)
Jana (pronounced Yana) was rather long winded and enjoyed showing us all the highs and lows of Prague.

She ran a tight ship and would chastise us if we didn't keep up with her.

The astronomical clock was pretty amazing.

A statue in tribute to their famous Poet, Kafka.
We saw everything there was to see in the old town section of Prague.
After the tour we had to have a snack.
These donuts baked on a stick were delicious!
We hiked up the hill to the castle
We got a beautiful view of Prague, plus saw the changing of the guard.

We had another delicious Czech dinner

Did some shopping
And stuck around until the fireworks show over the Charles Bridge.
We ended the day with a birthday treat of crepes filled with ice cream

All in all we walked 13 miles that day.
I'd say it was a pretty memorable birthday!

Ha! Ha! The Gabrielsen family cruise director got schooled in Prague! That struck my funny bone. You never get after people for not keeping up, though. You look so beautiful, Joan, in that beautiful city. What a happy birthday!!!

That's right. I'm now in love with a girl named Praha. So when I die, spread my ashes on the Charles bridge so I can be with her every night at sunset.
