"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Summing up September

Whew! I can't believe September is over and now it's October.
I've been playing Blog catch up all summer long,
so now it's time to sum up September.
September is definitely one of our favorite months,
summer is over and we are back in a schedule, the weather is fantastic,
and it's the prettiest time of year.
With that in mind, we headed to the hills for the last camp out of the year
(at least for me anyway).
We drove up to Poverty Flats, my favorite campground of all time.
It's up along the south fork of the Salmon river and it's kind of remote, so we always have it to ourselves.
On our drive up, we saw a brown bear right by the road.
I couldn't get my camera out quick enough to get a picture.
We arrived on Friday late afternoon
and got our tent all set up and had a delicious
Jimmy John's picnic dinner
Our friends, Rick and Aline Hurst, joined us later that evening and we made a delicious dutch oven apple cobbler.
That's one happy camper
Our home away from home
The trees and bushes were just starting to turn

We saw salmon swimming upstream in the river.
What amazing creatures they are to swim upstream all the way from the Pacific ocean back to where they were hatched.
Tom and the Hursts went fishing on Saturday afternoon.
The fishing wasn't great but it was a beautiful day.
On our way home we saw two more bears, a mama and a baby cub running right along the road in front of us.
Awesome.
We had a fantastic time.
September is also a month of birthdays!
Tommy on September 4 and Miss Sophie Joan on September 28.
I love that Devin and Sarah live in Boise because now when I need a baby fix,
I just have to drive to Hidden Springs.
Which I did as evidenced by this picture.
I love Miss Sophie Joanie

I drove Charlie and Lucille up to Devin and Sarah's house so they could see the newest addition to the Morris clan.
Lucille was definitely charmed by little Tommy.
To celebrate Sohpie's birthday, I took her out to lunch to her favorite place,
where else? Chick Fil A
We then went shopping so she could pick out her gift,
and we ended up at the Cupcake store.
Bubble gum please!
Happy 5th birthday Sophie!

Your camping trip looks like fun and it is great that you have remained such good friends with Hurst over the years. They are a nice couple. Tommmy is such a cute little guy - I'm sure that Charlie and Lucille are happy to have another great-grand baby! I love your tradition of taking your grandkids to lunch on their birthday!

Looks like you've had a very fun, very busy month. Leah saw the picture of Sophie's cupcake and said, "Hey! I want dat!" I guess you'd better add us to your birthday lunch tradition.

I'll bet you and Tom could be guides in the Idaho mountains. You have sure had lots of trips and fun there. So glad that you've got a new grandbabby to hold - there's nothing better! I'd call that a good September!

Nicely done Joan. Brings back good memories of being outdoors. Sorry to hear it was your last campout for the year (wimp). But I know what's wrong. It's clear you have a "fever, and the only prescription is more (baby) cowbell!"
