"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Adding up April

Boy, April is almost in the books. We've been keeping busy with some fun activities.
We got our bikes out of mothballs and went our first bikeride of the year down on the greenbelt.
The Boise river is high and had flooded the path at one point.
It was a beautiful day!

A bright and sunny selfie.

We finally made it to Tango's.
An Argentinian Empanada place in Boise.
It was yummy. I'm sure we'll be back.

I've been doing lots of hiking in the foothills.
Spring is so pretty in the Boise valley with all the new growth and green trees.
I love this photo we got from Taylor.
He and his roommates sponsored a Disco party in their apartment.
I think he definitely fit the part of a 70's dude.

This guy didn't make it to the party,
but he would have fit right in.
Tom was the MC for our Joint YM/YW Jeopwardy game activity.
I'm not sure who he was supposed to be, but he was entertaining.

We learned how to dip chocolates for mutual last week.
It was great fun playing in that delicious chocolate.

Tom and I flew down to Arizona last week to attend Whitney's grad school graduation.
We arrived in time to go to her school and see her direct her 4th and 5th grade choir.
That choir is amazing.  They sing with all their heart.
She's a fabulous director.

That night we drove to Scottsdale for a delicious hamburger at Hopdoddy Burgers.
The pretzel and nutella milkshake was memorable!
We even got in a game of mini golf!
It came down to the wire but Tom beat Whitney by a nose.
Whitney took the day off on Friday so we took a drive up to Jerome,
an old copper mining town built on a hillside.
It was really interesting.
The open pit mine

It was fun wandering around and shopping in the quaint stores.
Many of the storefronts and buildings are still standing in this ghost town.
We then drove up to Flagstaff.
It is a whole different Arizona up north, complete with trees for lumberjacks to cut down.
The weather was perfect!

Saturday morning Tom went golfing, so Whitney and I went on a hike.
These Saguaro cacti are in bloom.
They were fascinating to this non-desert girl.
Whitney is in amazing shape and beat me up the mountain.

Whitney and I shopped all afternoon and then headed to Phoenix for her graduation ceremony at Grand Canyon University.
GCU is a private Christian school.  I was very impressed with it and it's facilities.
Whitney graduated with her Masters degree in Educational Leadership.
The host of Cupcake Wars, Justin Willman, gave the commencement address.
Surprisingly he was really good. He's a magician/comedian.
Then came the big moment!

Isn't she cute?
We are so proud!

Sunday morning, Whitney fixed us breakfast and we found a 9 am Sacrament meeting, then we headed to the airport and flew back to Boise.
It was a fabulous weekend in Arizona.

You have had a busy month! Your chocolate dipping activity brought back memories of learning to dip in mutual with Helen Simmons and the year that you and I dipped some chocolates at Christmas time. I am so proud of Whitney getting her master's degree. I wish I could have heard her school program and watched her direct. She is so talented!

We all just adore that Whitney girl! My turn next!! I can't wait to see Arizona. That is an interesting way of dipping chocolates-- I've never seen it done that way. When we did it in Home Ec at BYU we dipped them in bowls with these long thing spoon-like things. Did you dip caramels, or what was inside of them?

I learned from Helen Simmons, too, Patty! I want to play in chocolate. And I want to hear Whitney's choir. Dixie State plays Grand Canyon in basketball and they are always good. They have quite a following. Congratulations, Whitney!!!!!!

I have to admit that after I watched all those girls put their hands in the chocolate, I lost my appetite. No chocolates for me ;)
We dipped peanut butter rice krispie/caramels, caramels, orange fondant, and cinnamon bears.

Way to go Cheat! You are amazing (except for your putting skills). I feel a whole new persona coming out after putting on that coat of many colors, the glasses and the headband. I'm going to call him . . . VERBALICIOUS! (Release the hounds!!)
