"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Coming Home to BYU!

The  BYU Alumni Board of directors meetings are usually held during Homecoming, so the second weekend in October, Tom and I headed down to Provo.
My meetings started bright and early on Thursday morning.
We heard from President Worthen and Coach Rose, BYU basketball coach.

We headed over to LaVell Edwards stadium for a tour of the President's loge
and a group photo.
Afterwards, we went to the Alumni Achievement award guest lecturers,
then had Chapter training meetings all afternoon.
Thursday night we heard from Sister Elaine Dalton, former General YW President.
She was a fabulous speaker and truly inspired me to be better.
Friday morning we had more chapter training especially on how to use social media,
so we all took pics with Robbie Bosco who also serves on the Board of directors.
We were then to share our pics on Facebook or Instagram.

We had an award luncheon and more chapter training meetings all Friday afternoon and then on Friday evening Vai Sikahema, former BYU football player, spoke to us.

The Living Legends performed for us.

Sara and Jon and family got into town on Friday afternoon and met us on campus after our dinner.
Sara took the 3 younger kids to Patty's house and put them to bed,
but Lucy got to hang out with the big kids.
We ended up not sitting too far from them in the football stadium, so Tom sat with Jonathan, Whitney sat with her friend Aubrey and Lucy and I hung out together.
She's pretty fun to watch a football game with.
Especially when the Cougars win in double overtime!

True blue family!

BYU!
Saturday we got up bright and early and headed into Provo for the BYU Homecoming parade.
BYU Alumni always sponsors a float and asks the Alumni board
and the chapter chairs to walk in the parade and throw candy.
Taylor has walked with us the last two years.  It is a highlight for him.
He brought his "little brother" to walk along with us.
Ian loved it.

After the parade, we met up at the BYU store for some shopping
and a few photo ops.
We had lunch together at the Brick oven
then, Sara, Lucy, Tom and I headed to the Marriot Center for the Homecoming Spectacular.
Can I just say that Gladys Knight is AMAZING.
You would never know that she is 72 years old.
Her voice is incredible and as always all the BYU performing groups were awesome.

It was a great show.
After the Spectacular, we met back up with everyone and played at the park for a while

and then went to JDawgs for a hotdog dinner before
Whitney and Taylor went to the Homecoming Spectacular.
Tom and I and Sara's family went back to Patty's house afterwards, I visited Patty who was tending kids at Tricia's house,
we watched football and went to bed.
We got up very early on Sunday morning and drove back to Boise.
There's nothing like coming home to BYU in October, especially when you get to be all together with your family while you're there!

That BYU game was amazing! Roger and I were yelling at the tv, cheering for BYU! They are so lucky to have you as their biggest cheerleader, and you had some great activities at the alumni conference. I love the pic with you and Robbie- you look darling!

You are so famous. I feel lucky to know you. It looks like we missed a barn burner. How fun to watch it with Lucy.

Let's get the REAL story out there. Joan sat with Tom for half of the football game, but then decided that Tom needed to go sit with Jonathan because, according to Joan, Tom was complaining too much about the lack of production by BYU on the field. But it all ended well, so Tom will not hold any grudges. For now.

Such a great tradition! It is basically set in stone now that we have to go next year.
