"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Campout with the Gabrielsen's

This past weekend we went camping with John and Cindy and their family. We hadn't been camping with the Gabrielsen's for about 15 years so we were so happy when we were able to tag along with them on their annual campout. We camped up by Stanley at the Lola creek campground along Marsh Creek. John and Cindy and their family got up to the mountains on Wednesday and we arrived on Thursday. It was so fun being up in the mountains with Ali and Justin and their 4 cute kids and with Aaron, Carina and Adam. Cindy has not lost her touch cooking over an open fire. Aaron also proved himself to be a great fisherman and chef. We had delicious meals including salmon and steak. We went on a fabulous 6-mile hike on Friday up to Langer Lake. It was beautiful in spite of the hail storm. Tom and I had our picnic (our rock was deposited)on the banks of "No-name" lake and Tom tried to catch some fish. We went hotspringing at Sacajewea hot springs on Friday night. It felt so good especially since it was record cold temperatures. It got down to 23 on Friday night. Brrrr. We had a great time eating, talking, singing, story-telling, hiking and biking and can't wait til next year :)

Even though camping is not at the top of my "favorite things to do" list, I have to admit I feel a little jealous of you getting to be with all of those fun people. It might be worth the insect bites and poor night's sleep!

I have to say, I miss Cindy cooking over a campfire in a skirt with barefeet, though.

Come on, Cindy. Jeans? . . . . so prosaic!

Oooh, camping. In cold weather?? Yeah. Don't know about that.... the s'mores would have to be pretty darn good to get me up there. Lucy would volunteer though!

p.s. At least John's new truck didn't get barfed in this time. Maybe that's why it's been 15 years since they've been with them....sorry. They had to make sure I was far, far away.

23 degrees? Wow. My respect for all of you has increased a few notches. Those pictures are beautiful.

What a fun camping trip! I'm so glad you guys were able to come up and share it with us! Even though it was freezing I'd do it all over again. Adam loved camping and eating a fresh fish breakfast caught by his dad every morning.

Sounds so great! I wanna come. I'm not so sure about the 23 degree weather, though. I can't believe how big Ali and Justin's kids have gotten.

That sounds/looks like a beautiful hike. How fun. I need to get better at campfire cooking. You really eat well. We usually have hot dogs because it's easy :)

Lola Creek! Oh I'm homesick for just a second. This is our family's favorite camp spot too. Kevin and I hiked up to the lookout tower last time we were in the area. There is NOTHING like it in Cebu...23 degrees sounds like heaven, although I'd probably freeze to death after six months of hot and humid. Thanks for sharing your happenings. Love Sister Reed
