I haven't blogged much about Taylor's basketball team this year. I guess the reason I haven't is because for the first time in Taylor's sports career he is on a losing team. We've tried to analyze reasons why the team isn't playing well this year, and you could partly blame it on a new, young coach (the varsity basketball coach got fired last October for inappropriate behavior so they had to name an interim coach and went with the JV coach who only has 2 years of coaching experience). Coach Rush is a great guy and a positive influence in these boy's lives and is doing his best, but I think it is a big adjustment to go from coaching JV to varsity. Another reason is the boys aren't used to losing and have gotten discouraged and have lost confidence in their teammates and their abilities. I am so proud of Taylor. He has stepped up as the team leader and has decided to have a good attitude regardless of the outcome of the game. He goes into each practice and game and chooses to play his hardest and his best and enjoy playing high school basketball. Since he changed his attitude, he has been the high scorer in each of the last 5 games and has averaged 15 points per game. They beat Mountain View last week and lost to Rocky Mountain by 6 points, but Taylor's attitude has made a big difference in his playing. Nobody likes to lose, but I think the life lessons he is learning from playing on a losing team will be much more valuable in the long run. Here are some pictures the Idaho Statesman reporter took at the ballgame last week against Rocky Mountain. Taylor had 21 points in that game, one short of his jersey number. Go number 22!

Oh wow! Great shots! You are so right. He's learning great life lessons, and isn't that what sports SHOULD be all about. Great post.
Those pictures are awesome! The top one is really impressive! I'm dying to know - did he make it!
Good for Taylor. We're proud of him too, and in another few months none of those losses will matter anyways, but just think how much he'll have learned for his mission!
He did make that shot, and got fouled to make it a 3 point play. He also made the shot in the next photo where he is sandwiched by two tall guys. He went up with a sweet left hand and scored. Way to go Taylor! This dad couldn't be prouder, and if you can't hear me, I'll yell a little LOUDER!!!
He looks totally pro.
