"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

These are a few of my Favorite Things

Not much too exciting going on around here, just lots of preparations for Christmas. As I decorated my house this year, I thought about some of my favorite Christmas things. First, I love my Christmas children's books. I line them up on my stairs and then every night, I try to take one down and read it. Lucy loves this decoration and has found her own Christmas books at her home and lined them up on her stairs.
Second, I love Christmas cards. I enjoy reading each and every card we receive and then I tape them to my front door. I love seeing long time friends and family and hearing how everyone is doing. It is one of my favorite Christmas traditions.
Third, I love Snowmen. I don't know why, because I'm not a big fan of snow, but I just think snowmen are pretty cute, so years ago, I started collecting them. I now have many snowmen and I love putting them out each year and thinking of the people who gave me each one.

Fourth, I love nativity sets, especially this one. I inherited this nativity from my Mom. She made it and that means a lot to me. My Mom didn't make many crafty things. She was a wonderful pianist and she loved to knit, but she never thought of herself as an artist. She made this ceramic nativity and each year I set it out I think of her beautiful hands creating it.

Fifth, I love this Christmas pyramid. It is also a nativty that was hand carved in Germany. In 1991, Tom, John and Cindy and I traveled back to Switzerland and Germany to visit John and Tom's missionary stomping grounds and we bought this in the Black Forest. It is a highlight every Christmas Eve to light the candles and watch it spin around.

Sixth and lastly, is Sister Whitney Morris who will be home from Russia this Thursday night in time for Christmas! We are counting down the hours. We can't wait to see this wonderful daughter who has served faithfully and valiantly and been a magnificent missionary.

It's not raindrops on roses, but these are a few of my favorite Christmas things....

What a cute post Joan! I love the tradition of lining your books up along the stairs. So fun! We had one of those wooden things with the candles that spins growing up too. It was always one of my favorite things to pull out each year. I wonder what happened to it?

Yeah, well, looks like I didn't make the list of "Favorite Things." I knew Whitney would hold MFC (Most Favored Child) status the minute she went on that mission!!

My mom had that same nativity set and it was my favorite thing to arrange and rearrange the peices all season. The snowmen look so cute.
