Whitney came for a visit this past weekend. We had a great time with her and her friends, Taylor and Lauren as they spent a few days with us. The weekend went by way too fast, but we tried to do some fun stuff while they were here. They didn't get home til about 9:30 on Friday night, so I thought they might make a trip down to Merrit's (home of world famous scones and cigarette smoke), but they opted instead for the hot tub. Saturday morning after breakfast,

we headed up to Table Rock.

It was a beautiful fall morning and we hiked to the top to enjoy the view of Boise and the surrounding valley. We stopped at the Capitol City Farmer's Market in downtown Boise on our way home. Boise has a great farmer's market with lots of fresh produce and other fun products. Lauren saw this little boy selling his drawings

and she had to commission him to do a drawing of her.

He was so cute and took his artist career very seriously. Lauren also struck up a conversation with a Somalia refugee who was selling produce from their community garden. He ended up giving her a bag full of wonderful fall produce.

That Lauren is quite the charmer ;)
We spent Saturday afternoon making our desserts for the Octoberfest and watching the BYU game. Whitney and Lauren made the Black Forest chocolate cake and I made the Apple Cobbler

and some fresh peach salsa for snacking.
We drove over to Caldwell after the BYU game. Octoberfest was wonderful as usual. John and Cindy are such great hosts.

The food was DELICOUS! Our numbers were fewer this year. Some of our regulars, Tom (hunting with his Dad), Pam and Roger, Patty and Hal, Missy and Jedd, Pete and Rhonda, weren't able to come. But we still had a good time and it was fun to see Ali and her family, and Ami and family. After dinner we played a heated game of Trivial Pursuit

with John and Aaron as team captains. It was pretty hilarious seeing how competitive all the Gabrielsen's are, especially John and Aaron. John's team got the big win, but I'm sure we'll have better luck next time. Whitney and friends headed home on Sunday. We can't wait until Thanksgiving when she'll be back again.

Oh, stab to the heart! Missing Oktoberfest at John and Cindy's is a killer! The tables, the food, the smiles. . . everything looks fabulous! And Boise's Farmer's Market is so fun. So glad you got to have Whitney and friends home for a few hours. I'm sure they thought it was well worth the drive! Ryan, Missy and families watched the BYU game with us and it was pure excitement - Missy and Jedd were even cheering for BYU because of Riley. Go, Aggie-roots boy!
You should bring Lauren out for Christmas! She sounds like a hoot. I want to go to Oktoberfest someday. Oh, the food!!!! It looks amazing.
What a wonderful weekend! You did so many fun things in such a short time! The Oktoberfest looked so fun and so delicious! I am sorry we weren't able to come! Looking forward to seeing you guys soon!
I have yet to attend an Oktoberfest party; looks like a blast! And how great to have the Whitters home for a weekend.
Lucky, lucky, lucky. The Bratwurst looks good, but Whitney looks better.
I haven't been to an Oktoberfest yet either. Looks like so much fun and so much good food! What a fun weekend with Whitney!
What a great weekend. I want to go to Oktoberfest again and see all those wonderful people and eat all that wonderful food. That little artist at the Farmer's Market is adorable. Thanks for sharing the pictures and description so I can enjoy vicariously.
