"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Run Katie Run!!

That first full week of March was a busy week. On Thursday, March 8, a group from our ward headed to Twin Falls for the day to go to the temple. We left Boise at 9 am, got to Twin Falls in time to make it to the 11:30 session, stopped for lunch at Subway and then got back to Boise at 4:30. It is a long, but very enjoyable day.

Sarah P's parents, Craig and Darlene Palmer and their daughter Natalie, came to Boise on March 9, for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. We were so glad that they were able to stay with us while they came to support Katie in her races. We all headed out to Nampa on Friday night to watch Katie compete in the prelims of the 800 meter run. Katie did fantastic and had the fastest qualifying time of all the heats which enabled her to compete the next night in the finals.
She also ran the anchor leg (1 mile) for BYU's Distance Medley Relay team. I don't know how she had the energy to run two very competitive races within a couple of hours of each other, but she did it. The BYU team got 6th place in the nation, thus making them All-Americans (you are an All-American if you get in the top 8 in the nation.)
Craig, Darlene, Natalie and Katie and Katie's BYU track coach after the race.

LaVell Edward's granddaughter, Sarah, also ran a leg of the Distance Medley Relay. LaVell drove up from Utah to cheer on his granddaughter and was walking around the medal's stand, so I got a picture with he, Craig and Katie.
We went back out on Saturday night to watch Katie compete in the 800 meter final. It was so exciting to be in the midst of so many great collegiate athletes. We watched pole vaulting, triple jumping, high jumping, long jumping and lots of races. It is really exciting to see the athletes run so fast on that embanked indoor track. Katie's race finally came and she fought her way to second for most of the race but got edged out at the finish line and ended up in 3rd place. One of her BYU teammates got 1st, so BYU got 1st and 3rd place in the nation in the 800 meter run. Congratulations to Katie!! Third in the nation and a two time All-American, pretty impressive. It was a very fun weekend and we really enjoyed hosting the Palmer family. Hopefully Eva and Sophie have inherited some of those "fast" Katie genes and not slow Grandma Joanie genes.
