"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Honoring Patti and LaVell

Patti and LaVell Edwards, former BYU Cougar Football coach and wife, were inducted into the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame in Boise on Wednesday night. They received the Nell and John Wooden Award for Lifetime Coaching Achievement. The organizers did a "This is Your Life" program for LaVell and Patti and had former players and coaches honor LaVell. The evening was full of humor, as people told stories about Edwards, and he dished it right back
Tom Holmoe (BYU AD), Trevor Matich (former BYU player and ESPN analyst), several former local BYU players,Gifford Nielson, Dave Kragthorpe(former assistant coach), Glen Potter (former head BYU basketball coach), Skip Hall (former BSU head coach) and his wife, Lyle Smith (former BSU head coach) and Frank Arnold (former head BYU basketball coach) were all there to honor LaVell. They also had video tributes from Vai Sikahema, Andy Reid and his wife, Jim McMahon, Steve Young, and Don James (former University of Washington head coach)and his wife. We got VIP tickets(the tickets were actually free) because the BYU Alumni association helped with publicity and it was such a treat to be there. I loved every minute of it. They couldn't have chosen a better husband and wife to honor. In light of all the coaching scandals and controversies over the past few years, it was refreshing to a honor a wife who supported her husband in his successful career and honor LaVell for doing it the right way.

This sounds like a wonderful event! I love "This is your life" formats - so much interesting and funny stuff comes out! I, too, really admire the Edwards. You do know he was an old Aggie, don't you? BYU scored, getting him for a coach!

He sounds like an amazing man. I remember taking the elevator with him and his wife at the Manhattan temple when we were in NYC visiting Amy. Why did they do it in Boise?
