A couple of weeks ago, Tom and I ventured back into the Owyhee desert for a hike. We drove out past Mountain Home, and Bruneau and off into the middle of nowhere. The road to get to the hike down to Big Jack's Creek was an adventure in itself, but we forged onward and found the trailhead.
The dessert has a unique beauty, lot of crazy rocks, and rock formations.
It was about a 2.5 mile hike down into the canyon.
And of course we had to have a picnic on the banks of the creek when we got down there.
Tom ranked the picnic a solid 9. I on the other hand was worried about getting back out of the canyon so gave it an 8 for difficulty.
The camping spot down along the creek.
The hike out of the canyon was pretty intense (for me),
it was a piece of cake for the mountain man
and I eventually made it!! Do I look exhausted?
I even had some battle wounds.
One of my favorite quotes "The most beautiful things in life are seldom easy" is depicted in this beautiful little flower pushing itself up between the cracks in the rocks. The saying proved true on the hike as well.
We got back to our Durango and on our way back to Boise we drove to the
overlook of the Bruneau canyon.
WOW, it was impressive. I am thankful I didn't have to hike down and back out of that canyon.
Who knew that Idaho has so many amazing canyons??

Wow! Good job! Idaho's looking like Utah/ Arizona with all those canyons. Good for you.
Joan, you are amazing! I love your analogy with the pretty little flower peeking out of the rock.
Who says we never do anything fun?! If people only knew that we were really scouting out a place to hide when the world ends.
You two are awesome hikers! You have so many adventures and picnics - I love it!
Wow!! Beautiful pics of Idaho and a very strenuous looking hike. I like Dad's comment-- ha, ha. You can find us amongst the Amish.
