Tom and I flew to Monterey, California for some lawfirm meetings a few weeks ago. Neither of us had been to that area of California and we had such a wonderful trip exploring the sights. Our flight got into San Jose, CA early in the morning, so we picked up our rental car and headed down the coast.
We stopped at some outlet malls on the way in Gilmore, CA (garlic capital).
We got checked into our hotel which was right on the ocean and headed out to find somewhere to eat lunch.
We ended up at Forrest Gump's which is always fun.
We wandered around all the quaint shops
It was a beautiful day!
I never look very good in a selfie.
I love this picture of Tom with the seagull photobomb
Tom had a meeting that evening so after his meeting we went to the Chart House for old times sake and had a delicious piece of Mud Pie.
While Tom was in his meetings in the mornings,
I'd take long walks along the ocean.
John Steinbeck wrote "Cannery Row" about the village of Monterey California back in the 1940s when the sardine fishing industry was in full swing.
Murals like this depicting characters from the book are painted along the old buildings along the greenbelt.
There is still a big fishing industry along the coast.
This is Fisherman's wharf
These sea lions hang out at the wharf hoping for a free lunch

Shops at Fisherman's Wharf
I found an awesome antique store.
This platter reminded me of one my Grandma Adams had.
Patty you'll have to let me know if it is the same.
A plethora of Disney collector pins
When Tom got done with his meetings we drove to Pebble Beach.
It was a gorgeous drive.
This rock was covered with sea lions
This lone tree is the "logo" for Pebble Beach
The green on the 18th hole at Pebble Beach
We thought this little golfer was a copycat of the Pinehurst Golf Club's logo
We drove into Carmel and checked out the beach
Then we had a delicous seafood dinner on the wharf.
Coconut crusted halibut.
There's nothing better than fresh seafood.
Pictures from my walk on Saturday morning
Our hotel the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa right on Cannery Row
Tom got to golf one of the Pebble Beach golf courses on Saturday afternoon
Sunday morning we found a church in Monterey
After church we found a Sunday brunch and then
drove down the coast to Big Sur
It was absolutely beautiful!
We drove back to San Jose and flew home to Boise.
We had a great time exploring northern California.

Those pictures make me want to go there. You look so beautiful and handsome! I read Cannery Row. Now I can picture it better. You're right- nothing better than fresh seafood. I'm so glad you had a nice time away together.
Such a beautiful place you got to visit!! That coastline looks amazing. I love long walks on the beach too, and that seagull photobomb is pretty hilarious.
Seagull photo bomb? Are you kidding me? She was taking a picture of the seagull and I photo bombed the seagull! Always wanted to drive down the coast on hyway 1 to Big Sur. It kind of reminded me of Lucky Peak in Boise (just kidding).
What a wonderful trip! I love that part of the California coast! I agree - nothing is better than fresh fish! Did you buy that beautiful blue plate? It sure looks a lot like Grandmas.
