"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

BYU Homecoming and Board meetings

We got home from California on Sunday evening and I had to leave Wednesday to go to my BYU Alumni Board of Directors meetings in Provo for Homecoming. I got there in time to take Taylor to dinner and then go to his soccer game. It was a beautiful evening and so fun to watch Taylor play sports again! Their team is really good and kind of blew out the other team.
I think I need a telephoto lens.
My meetings started bright and early on Thursday morning.
One of the things the BYU Alumni association does is honor past graduates at the Homecoming festivities.  Each college gives out an "Alumni Achievement Award". The College of Family Life honored Julie Beck, former General RS President. I represented the Alumni board at the lecture she gave prior to her receiving her award .
She gave such an outstanding talk on her BYU experience.
All of her children, siblings and mother were there to honor her.
It was such a treat for me to meet her family.
The awards luncheon all set up with the BYU china
They assigned each Alumni board member to sit with the families of the honorees. I sat with the School of Business's honoree, Kim Smith's family.
They were so interesting to talk to
Look who I found in the latest copy of BYU Magazine?
The new BYU Vice president Matthew Richardson spoke to us on Thursday evening. He gave such a great talk on doing your part and contributing wherever you live and serve.

I had a hot date with this cute BYU junior.

I loved walking outside after my meetings and seeing this Y lit up on the mountain.

The Hinckley center all lit up at night
My instagram post.
The leaves were all changing and Provo was so pretty with perfect fall weather.

I had meetings all day Friday and another lunch banquet with the 5 Alumni Distinguished Service award winners and their families. Friday afternoon we toured the new nursing lab. It was so impressive.  They've set it up just like a hospital with life-like "mannequins" that have pulses, respirations, and blinking eyes. We then toured the new BYU Guest house right by where President Holland used to live up on campus.
Friday night was the BYU Homecoming Spectacular.
Again, I had an awesome date.
BYU Men's Chorus was fantastic
I took this picture for you Kay, the BYU Folk Dancers,
the cloggers were Taylor's favorite
The artist, James C. Christensen, was the "grand marshal" of the Homecoming parade and he was honored. The theme of the show was "take flight" and it was based on his paintings. It was quite a spectacle. He narrated the show with one of his creations, Everyman. The show was also a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Harris Fine Arts Center.
Young Ambassadors with Stacy and Tom's daughter, Sydney.
The grand finale, complete with a flying Everyman.
After the show it was fun to see Pam and Roger,
Stacy and Tom and their family and Emily and Anna.

Saturday morning was the Homecoming Parade.
Taylor agreed to participate in the parade with me.
We met the other Alumni board members at the Marriott center parking lot at 9:15 am and got all ready to set out.
This was the Alumni association's float
We are geared up and ready to go with our bags of candy to throw.
The International Folk dancers were right behind us

Cougar Band
More folk dancers

Our last BYU banquet on Saturday.
I had planned to go to the BYU vs. Nevada football game but kickoff wasn't until 8:15 Saturday night, so after the banquet I headed back to Boise.
I watched the football game on TV when I got back to Boise and was so glad I hadn't stayed. BYU didn't do very well and the game went past midnight.
It was an awesome trip and I am so glad I got to spend time with Taylor and participate in all the wonderful BYU Homecoming activities.

I wondered if you had met up with the Stratfords. How fun to get to watch Sydney. You look so beautiful and look how much you and Pam look alike! I'm so proud of you and all the good work you're doing for BYU.

What a fun trip to BYU! Julie Beck is one of my heroes - I am so glad that you were able to meet her. Kay is right - you and Pam do look alike - that is a cute picture of both of you! You make a great parade alumni dignitary! I'm sure it makes the drive to Provo worth it to see Taylor and spend time together! I love the picture of you and Tom at the top of your blog!
