"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

A North Carolina Birthday, Baptism and Christmas concert!

I am about a month behind in my blog posts so it's time to try and get caught up. The first week of December, Tom and I flew to North Carolina to celebrate a birthday with a very special 8 year old. We arrived early in the morning on December 4, Lucy's 8th birthday.
Sara, Leah and I went to West Pine Elementary and took Lucy's favorite lunch and a cupcake to help her celebrate.
That night Lucy got to pick where she wanted to go out to dinner and she LOVES Olive Garden, so to Olive Garden we went.
Leah looks like she loves Olive Garden too!
Sara and I made some delicious Harry Potter themed "butter beer" cupcakes for dessert.

On Friday Sara, Lucy, Zach and I went to the movie,
Big Hero 6.
It was really cute.
That night we went out for pizza and Lucy got a s'more's pizza.
YUM
Saturday was Lucy's big baptism day.
Sara and I made these cute treats to hand out at the baptism.
8 truly is great!

Lucy's Grandma and Grandpa Cardon also flew to North Carolina for the baptism.  They know how much Lucy loves Harry Potter and they brought a mold to make a chocolate rat.
Delicious!
The big night finally came.
Doesn't Lucy look beautiful in her baptism dress?
A friend of Sara's made this dress for all the little 8 year old girls in the Pinehurst ward to get baptized in.
The Cardon family.
What a blessing to be baptized by your Dad.
All of the missionaries serving in the Pinehurst ward attended the baptism.
I took this picture of the cute sister missionaries to send to their Moms.
The sister on the left had just arrived in the mission on Wednesday.
We LOVE this oldest granddaughter of ours.
On Monday morning, we got Lucy and Zach off to school and Tom, Sara, Leah and I went to Waffle House.
No trip to the south is complete without a trip to the Waffle House.
I think Leah liked it

Later that morning I got to do Body Pump with this cute instructor.
Sara does such a great job teaching. I love going to her classes.

After school, Grandpa watched the kids and Sara, Lucy and I got a pedicure.

What a fun girly birthday present!
Leah wanted painted toes too, so when we got home I painted her toe nails.

Tom flew home on Tuesday, but I got to stay until Friday, so we spent the next few days, Christmas shopping, going on walks
and eating out.
This is a fun Carolina barbecue place in a little town called Carthage.
It was delicious
Those southerners know how to decorate for the holidays.
It's a tradition that I make Christmas cookies with the Cardon kids.
Zachy was such a good helper
Even Leah got in on the action and learned how to frost the cookies.

Lucy was at piano lessons when we started baking the cookies, so we saved her some to decorate.
Aren't they beautiful?
Zachy's school Christmas program was the night before I flew home.
I was so happy that I got to be there and see him perform.
Leah and Lucy put on their Christmas finery to attend the concert.

Zachy is that cute little elf on the 2nd row from the top.

It was a cute little play about Mr. and Mrs. Claus trying to find the perfect Christmas tree.

Cute little Christmas Cardons.

I love my visits to the south and spending time with these cute kids.

You did so many fun things with your grandkids, Joan! I'll bet they loved having Grandma Joan visit them, and 8 is great - Lucy will remember that you and Tom were there on her special day.
