"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

April in Atlanta - Master's Golf Tourney anyone?

Devin has been trying to get tickets to the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta Georgia each and every year ever since he went to graduate school at Clemson. The Masters has a ticket lottery and he has entered his name every year. Supposedly, tickets to the Masters are the hardest ticket to get in pro sports, so, when he drew 4 tickets this year to the Tuesday practice round, we started making plans. We, Devin, Tom and I flew to Atlanta on Sunday morning.
Sara and Jonathan and family drove to Atlanta from Pinehurst later on Sunday afternoon and we all met up at our hotel.
Our first stop after we landed and rented our car was to find a delicious restaurant where we could eat an Easter feast.
We found the "Rosebud Cafe"
The chef has competed on Top Chef and
since I'm a total Top Chef groupie, it was the perfect place to go.
I had delicious Eggs Benedict with a pimento cheese spread and cheesy grits.
Tom had a stuffed pancake and Devin had a southern fried chicken sandwich.
It was good food!
After lunch we drove to downtown Atlanta and walked around Centennial Park where they had the Olympic medal ceremonies.
Then we drove around the Georgia Tech campus

of course we had to take a picture of the football stadium where BYU beat Georgia Tech a few years ago.
It was fun finally meeting up with Sara and family later
Sunday evening at our hotel.
Monday morning, Zachy's birthday, we met for breakfast at the hotel
Tom and Devin went golfing and Sara, Jon and I and the kids
decided to go to the Atlanta Aquarium,
the biggest Aquarium in the US

It was an amazing Aquarium
This manta ray was as big as a car

Lucy crawling through one of the observations tunnels

Checking out the penguins

Beluga whales

Jelly Fish
We spent all morning at the Aquarium but when it was time for lunch,
Sara knew just where we should go.
Another Top Chef winner Richard Blais's restaurant
Leah had fallen asleep in the car, so we bought the kids McDonald's at a drive thru and Jonathan was a good sport and sat in the car with them while Sara, Lucy and I went inside and enjoyed our burgers.
(We did get Jon a hamburger to go from Flip)
I had the Oaxaca Burger,
angus beef, avocado, cilantro-lime mayo, queso fresco, pico de gallo
and Sara ordered the Southern,
chicken fried beef patty, pimento cheese, b&b pickles, coca-cola ketchup.
We also split a "Krispy Creme" milkshake,
what could be bad about that?
and had a Fry Side Sampler,
fries, tots and onion rings with 3 dipping suaces.
YUM!

It was really good.
Later that night we took Zachy out to dinner to celebrate his 6th birthday
at Frontera MexMex Grill
It was a fun place to celebrate a birthday!
We headed back to the hotel where Sara
had birthday cupcakes and gifts for Zach to open.
Tuesday morning, Jonathan's birthday,
Jon, Devin and Tom left early to drive to Augusta for the Masters Golf Tournament.  That left Sara and the kids and I a day to play.
We started by eating breakfast at the Flying Biscuit
We had eaten there years ago when we visited Atlanta and the food is delicious.
Oh man, is that Leah cute or what,
she was ready to dive into her buckwheat pancake.
Afterwards we went to Legoland Discovery Center in Atlanta.
It was located in a mall, but they've packed in a lot of stuff in a small space.
I kind of felt like I was in a "Supersized" Chuckie Cheese

This is the city of Atlanta, built out of legos.
It was built to scale and really intricate.
Zach and I  on a ride that you pedaled
and the faster you pedaled the higher you went.
I think it kind of freaked Zach out.

Legoland was well worth the cost ($15) and we had a fun time.
We found a fun playground afterwards
and let the kids play while we waited for the golfers
to get back from Augusta.
Leah was so proud that she climbed to the top of this mountain all by herself.

The golfers meanwhile, had an awesome time in Augusta watching the professionals warm up for the tournament the next day.

Tom took a closeup of the grass.
He said every blade of grass is perfect!
ESPN's set
The crowds, which only got bigger as the week progressed.

Tom's favorite hole.

Ricky Fowler in the blue, I think

They had great deals on the food.
Devin's pimento cheese sandwich was $1.50
Ice cream sandwiches (Sugar cookies filled with peach ice cream) $1.50
These guys were in heaven

Bubba Watson

Ian Poulter

Rory McIlory
They got back from Augusta and met us at a pizza place,
just in time to celebrate Jon's birthday.
Wednesday morning, Devin flew back to Boise, but we weren't done partying with the Cardon's.
We found a Mini Golf Course the Pirates Cove
and played a couple of rounds.
 My attempt at a selfie

After golfing, we had lunch and then the Cardon's hit the road and drove back to North Carolina leaving Tom and I an afternoon on our own in Atlanta.
Tom found a golf course and played another round of golf and I found some shopping. We enjoyed a delicious Mediterranean dinner and then found a discount movie theater and watched "Big Hero 6"
We got up on Thursday, drove to the airport and flew back to Boise.
We had a fantastic time in Atlanta, especially because we got to spend it with our fabulous family.

What a wonderful trip, filled with so many different activities, sights sounds and tastes and best of all, cute grandkids)! Roger always records the Masters, then we watch, popping through the commercials. We love Mickelsen! We were cheering for him each day, though we enjoy several of the great players. That course is so very beautiful and that is wonderful that your guys got to experience it in real life!

Wow! An experience of a lifetime! That picture of Lucy crawling through the tunnel should be on a magazine cover. What a cool place! When I travel from now on, I'm asking you where I should eat. You look beautiful, beautiful!

Nice wrap-up Joan. My vacations seem to go so fast anymore that I sometimes think I just dreamed it. The pictures help with the reality check. what's next?
