We've had a relatively warm spring here in the Boise valley so one Saturday in March we decided to head southwest to Celebration State Park outside of Melba. It is in the "Birds of Prey" area as well and has it's own desert beauty.
We of course brought along a picnic lunch.
We found the perfect picnic spot right along the banks of the Snake River.
Here's to the "perfect picnic spot" as quoted by the Berenstain bears.
It was a beautiful blue sky day
but a little windy
Can somebody tell me why people like to shoot at signs?
We even found some Indian petroglyphs
We took a little hike and crossed this cool old Train trestle.
We think it's called the Guffey Bridge and FYI
The Guffey Bridge is Idaho’s largest historic artifact and was entered
into the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The bridge is
the only Parker-Through-Truss Railroad Bridge in Idaho. It was designed
to facilitate the hauling of gold and silver ore from Silver City mines
at the turn of the century. The 450-ton steel structure is 70 feet
tall and spans 500 feet over the Snake River. The cost of construction
and other circumstances concerning the Boise, Nampa and Owyhee Railroad
precluded hauling any ore across the bridge but it was instrumental in
the agricultural development of the area. The bridge was abandoned in
1947, saved from demolition in the1970s and purchased and restored by
Canyon County in 1989.
It was the perfect spring outing because there's always time for a picnic!

Nice. I liked your picnic, but it was missing us. Not a 10...
Wow! You guys are becoming Idaho experts. I'm impressed. What a beautiful day for a picnic. Isn't that line in the Bernstein Bears too? or maybe that's the Mickey Mouse book. Ya, I think that's it. When they all pile in and go for a picnic. I should get you that book for your birthday.
