"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Embark to Girl's Camp!

Sara and Kay and families left on Sunday and I had two days to get ready for Girl's camp where I was the camp chef.
Our theme for Girl's Camp was "Embark in the Service of God".
We had a "cruise ship" theme and did lots of water related activities as well as traveled to a different "country" each day.
We left town on Wednesday and drove up to the Payette River where we went on a white water rafting adventure in "Texas".
We had several girls who had never rafted before and they LOVED it.
The weather was perfect and we rafted the main Payette where there are some class II and III rapids

After rafting, one of the girl's Dads met us in Banks where he had prepared a Texan dutch oven feast.
It was so nice to not have to worry about cooking food on the first day
Here the girls are playing on the beach during our picnic

Our entertainment
On Thursday we arrived in Mexico. We ate breakfast burritos for breakfast and then loaded the cars complete with Mexican tunes and headed off on our hike to Blue Lake.
The girls had a competition for who could find the most varieties of wildflowers along the way

The hike into the lake was 1 mile, all downhill, which meant 1 mile all uphill to get out of there
We made it and it was beautiful!

The girls had a great time swimming
catching frogs,
playing in the mud
and they even built a raft out of duct tape and drift wood

they paddled it across the lake
The scenery was so pretty

We hiked out and had Pork Barbacoa salad/burritos for dinner
My two Mia maid assistants
Writing some secret sister notes
Our group in our camp Tshirts before Skit night
Each tent's "bag skit"

Friday was our day at the lake and we set sail for France and woke up to
French toast casserole.
The girls had so much fun tubing and playing in the lake

A beautiful day in the south of France
We even had a couple of sea monsters show up

The Bishop showed up that evening and helped cook dinner,
French foil dinners
Aren't they a cute group?
All the YW leaders and girls
After dinner we played on the rope swing until one of the girls sprained her ankle. Oops

The junior leaders took the Beehives on a snipe hunt.
They told the girls that Snipes like mint so they smeared toothpaste on their faces?

We headed home on Saturday morning after a service project.
I was so glad to have survived another year of Girl's Camp.
I love being with the youth, it helps me think I'm young.
Speaking of young, on Saturday night we celebrated Lucille's 89th birthday at Texas Roadhouse.
So thankful these two are still around

You are so good to go to camp and be the cook - I am sure that all the food was yummy! Your theme for camp was fun and gave inspiration to some good meal choices. You look so cute in the picture with all the leaders! Lucillle and Charlie seem to be in a time warp - they both look great!

You are such a good sport to always be at Girls Camp year after year. At least you get to do super fun stuff and your weather cooperated. Your food sounds awesome! Those girls don't know how good they had it.
