"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

May Road Trip

One of our favorite places to visit is southern Utah.  We love the sunny days and also visiting our family that lives in Elk Ridge and St. George. So Tom and I planned to take a road trip at the beginning of May.  Needless to say that when we planned the trip we didn't know we would be moving in a month, but we tried to leave our worries behind and we stuck with our plan.
We left after church on Sunday and drove to Elk Ridge stopping on the way for an In and Out burger.

Monday morning Tom got to golf with Hal and I got up early for a hike.
Patty and Hal's home has such beautiful views and is such a great place to hike.
After the hike, I got ready and then Patty and I went shopping.
We made it to a couple of stores before Patty just wasn't feeling well so we headed back to their home. It was only later that Patty found out that a diseased gall bladder was causing her so much pain so surgery was scheduled.
Anyway, Tom and I didn't want to bother Patty and Hal Monday night
while she wasn't feeling well, so we
drove to Provo and walked around the BYU campus and stopped at the BYU Creamery for a treat.
Tuesday morning we took a beautiful drive down to Bryce Canyon
Of course we packed a picnic
The weather was cold and blustery, but that didn't stop us from
taking a couple of hikes and exploring.

The snow hadn't melted but that just added to the beauty of the canyon.

We stayed the night in a little town outside Bryce Canyon
and got up the next morning and went on a few more hikes.

We spent the morning and early afternoon in the Park and then drove down to St. George.
Kay and Ken had just returned from a European cruise and both had bad colds,
so Kay was out of commission  but Ken was feeling better.
We visited that evening and then the next morning Ken to us hiking up above the city of St. George.

Tom, Roger, and Ken went golfing in the afternoon so I went to the St. George temple
and did a session.
On Friday morning Ken took us on another hike up to Shinobekibe.
In the 1940's the government placed these concrete arrows on mountain tops to point the way
to airplanes flying from east to west

It used to be painted yellow

We took a picnic to Red Cliffs and did a little hike there.

Friday night Kay had planned to have Pam and Roger over for a Japanese dinner,
but she just wasn't feeling well, so we went out to dinner with
Pam, Roger and Ken. I feel bad I forgot to take a picture.
Saturday morning we drove up to Kolob canyon and then on to Salt Lake
where Whitney had a nice dinner prepared for us.
We stayed the night with Whitney and got up early on Sunday morning and drove up to Logan where one of my former young women was speaking in church before leaving for her mission.
We surprised her when we walked into her ward in Hyde Park.
Kassidy did such a great job. She will be a fantastic Oklahoma missionary.
Afterwards we drove into Logan and decorated my Mom's grave since it was Mother's Day.
We then hit the road for Idaho.
It was a fabulous road trip.
Thank you to our wonderful family for hosting us in spite of sickness.

So glad you came, even though I was sick. I'm glad you were able to have fun, even though you had such a big project awaiting you at home.
