A week ago Sunday we had an interesting experience at our house. I had gone to church as usual and the Bishop's executive secretary pulled me out of Sunday school to ask me a question. He asked if we had a hot tub, then if it was working, then if it was hot. I answered yes to all the questions and he asked if it would be okay if we had a baptism in our hot tub right after the church block. He explained that a little boy in our ward had shown up for the stake baptism the night before but that the baptismal font wasn't working properly and the font never fully filled with water and the water was cold. He attempted to be baptized, but he was afraid of water to begin with and after two tries and never getting fully immersed, he ended up hysterically in tears. His mother was also in tears and they gave up. Their whole family was there from out of town for the baptism, and they wanted to do the baptism before they left town, so they got permission from the stake president to have a baptism in someone's hot tub the next day. We were lucky enough to be chosen. It was quite a shock to Tom when I got home from church at noon (his single's branch doesn't start til 1, so he was home in between meetings) and informed him that we were having a baptism and shortly thereafter about 40 people showed up. I was so thankful that I had cleaned my house on Saturday because it was a very cold day so we had a song, and prayer in our family room before gathering around the hot tub in the backyard for the baptism. Carson was successfully baptized by his Dad after two tries and his Mom tearfully thanked me for accomodating their family and friends. They also confirmed him after he was dressed in our family room. It was a neat experience and I'm thankful we were able to be a part of a baptism.
"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

That is such a neat story. I've never heard of a hot tub baptism, but I'm so glad he was able to be baptized.
That is a neat story. I think that type of baptism might catch on. It would be so nice to have the water be so warm. Congrats to you for having your house all clean and ready for such a special event.
Wow! I can only imagine how surprised you were when he asked you if he could have a baptism in your hot tub. I've never heard of anyone doing that before, but I guess it doesn't matter WHERE it is done so much that it gets DONE.
What a great story! And what a memorable baptism for that little guy! You really blessed their lives!
This is a funny story that I'm glad you've blogged in order to always remember it. Maybe Lucy can get baptized in your swimming pool??:)
Wow what a neat story! I had Evan read it and he responded with, "That's why we need a hot tub! You never know when an emergency like this could come up."
That's really cool. What a neat experience to be able to help that family out.
What a touching story. I'm sure that this little guy will always remember his baptism, and his parents and family will always be grateful to you and your family, for making this special ordinance take place.
What a neat story! I bet you that little boy will never forget you guys or your hot tub :o).
