"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

This or this?

For the past week, Boise has been in an inversion. For those of you who don't know what an inversion is, it is a weather pattern that develops from a high pressure system. The cold air gets trapped in the valley and the warm air is up above at the higher elevations. It is cold, gray and foggy in the valley, but up in the mountains, it is warmer and sunny. Being in Boise, you don't realize that up above the fog and grayness, the sun is shining. It gets depressing gray day after gray day. Tom took me on another adventure last Friday mainly to get out of the inversion. We drove up to Cascade and cross country skied and then had dinner and then went to Gold Fork Hot Springs. It was so fun! We went to two different cross country ski trails and even saw a deer. I think I may even start to like winter if I can get away every weekend and break out of the inversion.

I think we can understand. I don't know if we have "inversions" here or not, but we've sure been getting the whole snow, melt, snow, melt thing. Don't tell anyone, but I miss the snow. :(

Love all the updates, by the way. They were so much fun to read.

Great pictures! You in the towel is "evidence" that you get in the hot pool, but I wouldn't call it "proof." Next time, take a picture of you IN . . .then I'll believe it.

OR . . . you could have that lawyer friend of yours testify. . . On second thought, let's go with the picture.

I do hereby solemnly swear that Ms. Joan did, of her own free will and choice, place her entire body, but not her head ("it will ruin my hair"), in the hot and holy waters of Gold Fork HS, and I further testify that she really, really liked it. For those of you who don't know, Gold Fork is a series of 6 cascading hot spring pools, ranging in temp from about 108 - 90 degrees, somewhere in the Boise forest aka middle of nowhere. You pay to get in, there is a warm yurt to change in, and with no electricity it is lit up at night entirely by tiki torches around the pools. The effect on a cold night, with the steam billowing up and the light from the tiki torches dancing through the fog is fantastic! One of my all time favorite spots.

Honetly, I'd take either if it would get me out of Philly right now.:) I'm tired of our beautiful, bright, invitingly sunny 8 degree days. It's no fair when it looks like it would be so nice to play outside to a 2 year old, but the minute you set foot outside you freeze to death.

Is that the hot spring we went to a couple years ago? I loved that place. I think it ranks in my top 2 or 3. And this is coming from a daughter of hot spring hippies.

Do they still have that nudes only rule there?

It looks like you guys had a lot of fun playing in the snow. We too have had an inversion in the Valley, and I think that everybody is ready to see the sun. The hot spring looks fun :)

I agree with Sarah C., this East Coast freeze is awful. I would love to be in either a hot tub or Idaho.
