"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

January Adventures

Having an unemployed husband has its advantages. Last Friday Tom took me on an adventure. He packed a picnic and we headed up into the snowy mountains. We drove up beyond Lowman and snowshoed into Bonneville Hot springs. It was a beautiful sunny day and there was fresh snow. We even followed cougar tracks into the hot spring. That kind of freaked me out a little bit but I figured the cougar wouldn't hurt us since we are fellow cougars (BYU cougars that is). We didn't see the cougar but we did see elk and wild turkeys. It was great just getting out into the fresh air and sunshine. We ate our picnic lunch at the hot spring and then hiked back out(I gave the picnic a 9 on my scale from 1-10 just because Tom forgot to pack the chocolate :}). It was a very enjoyable day and fun to do something other than clean house on a Friday.

I did pack a fine picnic lunch. What's not to like about new snow, a blue sky day, and the whole forest to yourselves? I was never worried about the dumb old cougar. I had a ski pole as a weapon, and I can run faster than Joan can . . .

I'm sure if you broke out in the Cougar Fight Song, he'd(the cougar) realize what side you're on and leave you alone. Did you get in the hot springs, too, Joan? The "in" looks great; the "out" after would be shocking, to say the least. Looks like a fun a beautiful day!

I'm sure Jonathan would have been more than a willing participant in this cold and wintry adventure. He is relentless about wanting to go backpacking...but in January?!? Honestly!

So fun! I'll be honest: I'm a little jealous. I've been telling Brian that I want to go snowshoeing (I've never been), but we haven't made it yet. You've inspired me. I'm going out to buy snow pants and boots, and soon! That way when the chance comes, I'll be ready.

And you're right, Tom. . . That huge "dumb old Cougar" wouldn't have had a chance against your tiny little skeleton of a ski pole. :)

What a WONDERFUL day out. I too am jealous! A picnic in freshly fallen snow, wild animals and a hot spring to boot. You have one amazing husband. Can we come next time? I guess it wouldn't be so romantic for you two then huh.
