"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

King Cake Party

We had our annual King Cake party on Monday night. We love this Mardi Gras tradition started at least 10 years ago when Patty, Hal, Tom and I spent a week in New Orleans. We feature southern food for dinner and then King Cake for dessert. In the south people hold King Cake parties in the weeks leading up to Mardi Gras and the person who gets the "King" (baby Jesus) in their piece of King Cake is to host the party the next year. That has never worked at our parties because Uncle John always (it's a miracle!) gets the baby, but never has hosted a party (ok, he does host the annual Oktoberfest party and extravaganza so we will continue to cut him some slack with the King Cake party). Anyway, we had a great time this year even though we missed Patty, Hal and Cindy at the party.
It was fun to have the party with Sarah and Eva here. John, Carina, Adam, Missy, Jedd, Ellie, Sam, Jared, as well as Tom, Taylor and I were at the party. We had fried chicken, biscuits, shrimp and grits, corn pudding, collard greens and mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner. For dessert we had the King Cake (I tried a new recipe with an apple/cream cheese filling and it was so good) and Missy made a delicious Mississippi Mud cake. All the food was yummy and we had so much fun just being together. Taylor found the King in his piece of King Cake, so we'll see if he hosts the party next year!

What? John didn't get the baby this year? Go Taylor! I think he should host it. You'd have yummy Italian sodas!
Looks like so much fun. I loved seeing those darling children/babies. Look how dark Adam's hair is! ( The adults look nice, too)

How fun. The food sounds AMAZING. Maybe Uncle John getting the baby every year is a sign that he needs to host the next year's party. Hence why he keeps getting it!

That cake was so, so good. It tasted totally professional.

I watched Good Morning America a few days ago and they had some professional New Orlean's chef showing how to make a king cake, and they asked who the baby was supposed to represent, and not ONE of the chefs or hosts knew it was baby Jesus. DUH. Anyway, your cake looks and sounds better than his. Plus he was dumb. I don't think Taylor will host your party either. SOrry.
