The Christmas festivities continued the week after Christmas. Jonathon's co-worker, Dr. B (who's a member at Pinehurst Country Club) got Tom, Devin, and Jon onto the Pinehurst Golf course on Monday. I guess it was pretty awesome. The weather was great and they all had a good time.

Meanwhile, the non-nappers went to the park.

We all went to the Mellow Mushroom for pizza that night.

Tuesday we took a trip to Durham. It was our only rainy day but we made the best of it with a trip to the Waffle House

Devin has been a Duke fan ever since he was a little boy, so Duke's campus is hallowed ground. It was fun walking through the buildings, especially Cameron Indoor Stadium (home of the Blue Devils) and the book store.

We went to the mall and did a little shopping and then stopped for dinner at an authentic country barbecue joint. They specialized in anything fried, but their sweet potato fries and fried applesauce were amazing.

Wednesday, Tom and Devin got to golf again and that night we had our 4th annual Iron Chef Competition. This year's version "Iron Chef Beryl Court - Dessert" featured secret ingredient was "lime".

We divided up into teams, Sara and Whitney vs. Sarah P. and Joan and the competition began. Sara and Whitney made a lime sugar cookie crust and topped it with a lime semi fredo topped with toasted coconut and strawberries

Sarah P and I made key lime pie stuffed creme puffs with a raspberry-lime sauce and an extra dessert of cinnamon tortilla strips with a honeydew, strawberry, lime salsa and a lime creme topping.

The fearsome judges:

Next year I'm lobbying for their gig.
In a unanimous decision, Sarah P and I were awarded the winners! I finally won Iron Chef and got the monkey off my back!

The girls got to go shopping and to lunch at the Red Door on Thursday. The big BYU vs. Tulsa bowl game was on Friday. Thankfully the Cougars pulled out the win in the last seconds of the game.

There was one more day of golfing,

and lots of playing

and reading books.

We had a delicious New Year's Eve ham dinner

and celebrated the new year with a rip roaring fire,

banging pots and pans, and fire jumping, all done at 8 pm so the kids could go to bed. The adults actually didn't last past 11 pm.

We all went to Sacrament meeting together on New Year's day and then Devin dropped Tom off at the airport in Raleigh and Devin and family headed back to Richmond. Whitney and I had one last day with the Cardon's on Monday and went on a walk around Aberdeen Lake

and played at the park

and then had lunch at Panera.

We flew back to Boise on Tuesday. Thanks again Sara and Jonathan for hosting the Trashers! We LOVED our Christmas in North Carolina!

Your lime-cantaloupe salsa saved the day. That was so good. I've been craving it ever since! What a fun vacation. We're so happy you already have your return ticket booked!
So fun!! Maybe if you're all really nice to us for the rest of the year we'll host again next Christmas.:)
Iron Chef sounds like such a fun family tradition! Both desserts sounded delicious! Looks like you guys had a great vacation.
