"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

August Adventures

To start off our Adventures in August, I got to go to lunch with my good friend Sylvia, for my belated birthday. We had a delicious sushi lunch after going to the temple. I am blessed with such wonderful friends.

Then we celebrated a belated 88th birthday with Lucille!
We are so thankful for her and Charlie.
What a blessing they are in our lives.

Sophie got to come to the party!
One of my favorite summertime things, hiking the foothills with my friends, Lorri and JoAnn.
I am so bad at taking selifies.
Next up was celebrating this guy's 34th birthday!
I swear it seems like yesterday that that little guy was
screaming and fussing his little head off at Wymount Terrace.
He's definitely mellowed through the years and we are so
thankful he is a part of our family.
What a special blessing to have he and Sarah and family move to Boise.
We love having them close to celebrate all special occasions.
(no Tom, he did not cut his fingers off mowing his lawn)
Sarah invited us over for dinner and a delicious "rice pudding" birthday dessert.
Our ward finally got together for our Ward Campout in mid August.
The family campfire program just wouldn't be the same without Jed Manwaring being the MC.

A little Indian dancing with the Bishop.
(so not politically correct)
Some of the participants in the family skits.
The next morning we had breakfast

and then some of the families hit the hotsprings.
The Young men in our ward had their "High Adventure" right before our ward camp out and joined us on Friday night.
They left on Thursday and drove up to Stanley
where they did some awesome bike rides.

You don't get beautiful scenery like this on just any high adventure!

Evidently they had a few stream crossings.

Saturday morning after the Ward campout/service project,
they rafted down the Payette River.
I heard that the bishop even did a back flip off the front of the raft.
I think they all had a great time!

The Western Idaho Fair symbolizes the end of the summer, sigh.
We like to go to get our "greasy food" fix for the year.
Chicken terriyaki noodles

Corn on the cob,
and who wouldn't want to try "Bacon on a stick"
otherwise known as a "Cornhog"

We ended the night with our favorite treat,
an ice cream baked potato, YUM!
We had a family campout planned all summer for this past weekend
up in Stanley.  We were so excited to join Taylor
up at Red Fish Lake. We envisioned playing on the sun drenched beach at Redfish Lake, enjoying all the toys that Taylor rents out at the boat dock.
Tom and I and Devin and family got up to our campground on Thursday and got our tents all set up. The next morning we woke up to a partly cloudy skies,
but we weren't too worried about the weather.
Tom, Devin and Taylor took off on an 8 mile hike up to the
Saddleback lakes

Shortly after they left, it started raining.
Sarah and the girls and I hung out at Red Fish Lake Lodge and enjoyed some
hot chocolate to warm us up.

We took a drive up to Galena Summit,  ate lunch in our car, and when Missy and Jedd and family arrived we went to the Redfish Lake visitors center, all while it rained and rained and rained.
The  drenched hikers got back and we drove back to our campsite to find this,
a major flood.
A decision was made to abandon camp and head to warmer and sunnier locales.
We bid farewell to Taylor and drove to Lowman,
where we found sunshine and no rain!
The kids played in the pond while we cooked
an epic dutch oven feast.
Poor Tom was still freezing in his wet hiking clothes.
Devin tried to dry out his hiking clothes on the hood of his car.

We ate a delicious dutch oven dinner, complete with
dutch oven barbecued ribs, grilled corn on the cob, Jedd's dutch oven potatoes,
whole wheat bread and honey butter,
and Missy's dutch oven apple crisp for dessert.
It was delicious and almost made up for our rained out family camping trip.
Here's hoping next year the weather will cooperate.

Wow! Never a dull moment. I could gladly forget some of this (flooded out in Stanley) but all in all, not a bad couple of weeks. So, what's next? More bacon on a stick??

You are the campers, bikers, hikers extraordinaire! I'm sorry you were rained out of Stanley. Your Dutch oven feast looks and sounds delicious!
Charlie and Lucille both look great - they are amazing.
I'm sorry I missed Tom's Indian dance!
