4th of July Fun at the Cabin

Devin, Sarah and baby Eva left last Wednesday morning :( and later that afternoon Whitney, Taylor, Tom and I headed to Island Park to the cabin where we met up with Grandma and Grandpa Charlie. We spent 5 great days at the cabin fishing, golfing, picnicing (we rated it a 9 even though an aggressive phantom fox lurked nearby), touring Yellowstone Park, playing games, watching Wimbledon, and celebrating the 4th of July. We even had a visit from Saylor the bakerman who brought us loads of Great Harvest goodies. No 4th of July would be complete without a crazy, out of control fireworks show and we got just that at the Island Park Fireworks extravaganza in Last Chance. The guy in charge was crazy, lighting all the fuses with a blowtorch and grabbing sips of beer in between lighting the fuses. We were lucky to get out of there unscathed. As Devin says "It brought back memories of 'Nam". Other than fighting off the 5 million mosquitos, we had a wonderful time!

Really, a fox? I'm glad you survived the drunken Nam vet fireworks lighter and the mosquitos. Happy July 4th!

5 million mosquitos...YUCK! Even despite the mosquitos and lurking foxes it sounds like a fabulous time. I cannot let Jared see this post though. Otherwise I think his homesickness for Idaho and mountains will overcome his reason and he will be on the next plane to Idaho! What a wonderful way to spend the 4th!

What a photogenic family. And that rainbow picture is so pretty. Crazy story about the blowtorch-firework-lighter-drunk-man. Glad you came away unscathed.

Wow. Reading that was almost as good as being there myself!! Jonathan promised we'd get to go next year no matter what-- so Lucy (who has never seen a real Taylor-worthy fireworks show) is in for a treat with that extravaganza. I may be putting both kids in NASA-fire-retardant suits before we go though (good for the mosquitos too, I guess). Wish I could'a been there too.

Sorry Devin, but as you can see, Hodgeman #3 has taken your place. Hope you plan to get some Hodgeman waders for Christmas so you can at least wear them around the house there in Richmond. Don't fight it-it is your destiny.

What a great 4th of July! I'm with Kristen's husband Jared, that cabin and it's view made me homesick for Idaho. I can't wait to go backpacking there in August.
