"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Happy 2011!

We always enjoy the week between Christmas and New Year's. There's new toys to play with and lots of time to relax and have fun. Tom and Taylor spent Thursday up at Bogus Basin skiing and they had a fantastic day on the slopes. That night we had our annual neighborhood progressive dinner. We hosted appetizers at our home (piroshki, vegetable tray with homemade onion dip, crackers and cheeseball)

Then we were off to the Carr's for salad, Hathaway's for main course, and finally dessert at the Manwaring's. It was Ashley and Beau's birthday so Patricia made a delicious birthday cake.

Whitney with Wendy Manwaring and Megan Hathaway.
On Friday morning we headed up to Cascade for a day of snow shoeing and cross country skiing.

It was a beautiful but very COLD day. Temperatures were below 0. It was -9 when we got out of the car. It didn't take long to heat up once we got going.

We took a break and had a delicious picnic, but by the end of the picnic we were freezing and ready to get going again.
We got back to Boise in time to get ready and go out to dinner for New Year's Eve. It was Tom's turn to pick the restaurant and he chose Chinese food so we headed to the Great Wall.

It wasn't exactly fine dining (tater tots at a Chinese restaurant?), but we had a good time.
We spent New Year's day taking down Christmas decorations but we had a great New Year's party that night. We invited Charlie and Lucille, John and Cindy, and Aaron, Carina, Adam and Logan.

We ate fajitas and played Trivial Pursuit, Pop Culture version. The younger generation challenged the older generation and of course the older generation won (we actually won on a tie-breaker). Uncle John even wore his Russian fur hat just for Whitney.
2010 was an eventful year, now on to 2011. Happy New Year!!

LOVE John's Russian hat! What a fun New Year's party! Wish we were there with you! Whitney must have felt right at home with the cold on your cross country ski adventure. Looks like you had fun. And what a neat tradition to have a progressive dinner in the neighborhood!
