To say the least, January 2017 will be remembered for some crazy winter weather.
We had 14 inches of snow on the ground when 2017 began and it just has gotten worse from there.
(we've accumulated 35.5 inches of snow in the valley from December til now)
(we've accumulated 35.5 inches of snow in the valley from December til now)
School was cancelled the first week of school and then the next week as well.
School in some counties hasn't even started back yet because of all the snow.
Roofs have collapsed and we've had record breaking snow, but enough of that
on to celebrating the new year!
It has become a tradition to eat Chinese food on New Year's eve,
so Whitney found this amazing Thai/Chinese restaurant.
It was very busy but so worth the wait.
We loved our dinner.
After dinner, we decided
a great way to ring in the new year would be to go bowling!
We met our friends and neighbors the Manwaring's at the bowling alley
and the fun began!
After bowling we took a dip in our hot tub and welcomed in the new year!
On Sunday, after church, we braved the winter weather and drove up to Donnelly
where our friends have a cabin.
We arrived at the cabin safe and sound after a snowy drive and had a delicious Italian dinner courtesy of Chef Whitney and then had a fun night of game playing.
The next morning we donned our winter gear and headed out into the snow.
Taylor and I cross country skied and Tom and Whitney snow shoed.
There is a crazy amount of snow!
(and even more now)
After playing outside all morning,
we warmed up in the cabin and played some more games!
We decided to pack up and head up to a hot springs on the way back to Boise,
so we loaded up the car and headed for Warm lake.
On the way we encountered a severe winter blizzard,
after driving up the mountain barely distinguishing the road from the snow flying all around, I was the bad guy and persuaded Tom to turn around and head back to the main road and home to Boise so we missed out on the hotsprings in a blizzard.
On the drive home, the clouds parted and we could see blue sky!
The next day, Taylor packed up and drove back to Provo.
We loved having he and Whitney home for the holidays.
His last meal in Boise you ask?
A "Mcdirty"
(a Mcchkicken and a double cheese burger under one roof)
Thankfully Taylor got back to Provo safely and on Wednesday it continued to snow....
We shoveled the driveway 3 times that day and it just kept coming
After the crazy snowstorm, the cold temperatures descended.
This is the window inside our living room.
It is covered in frost.
(I think we need better windows, but still)
I think it got down to -10.
Here's to a happy, healthy, less record breaking new year!

That hot spring sure would have been nice. But not to fear, we made it back the next week!!
I'm glad you were the bad guy. Better safe than sorry, as they say. Your pictures look like mine. I was just working on our snowmagedon post. So I feel your pain. But it is pretty. I'm glad your kids got home safely and that you had such a fun New Years!
Oh my word! Your snow situation is completely out of control. You can't even make out what anything is-- it all just looks like snow covered lumps. I really hope you have a nice spring. You guys deserve it.
Wow - you have had more snow than we have! I love your New Year's Eve tradition of Chinese food and with Thai food also, that sounds perfect! I also love Taylor's bright green ski pants - he could be found in an avalanche or a blizzard! Looks like you had fun with Taylor and Whitney home!
