"So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment."—Thomas S. Monson

Leaving Las Vegas

We dropped Taylor off at the MTC and then Sara, Lucy, Zach and I drove down to Las Vegas to begin the process of packing Sara's family up for the move to North Carolina. I tried to entertain the kids while Sara and Jon got all packed up.
We went on walks,
and to the movies."Winnie the Pooh" to be exact. We also took time out to get some frozen yogurt and shaved ice. It was so HOT in Las Vegas!

After a long day of boxing up and packing, Sara and I took a break and went down to the Las Vegas Strip to Max Brenner's chocolate restaurant in the Caesar's forum shops. What a treat!! We shared an order of fish tacoes and a side order of waffle fries dusted with cocoa and chili powder and served with a chipotle dipping sauce. They were so good and worth a trip back. The main stars were of course the desserts. We shared a delicious ice cream sundae with white chocolate ganache, dark chocolate, peanut butter and who knows what else. It was so good. We also shared a chocolate pizza with the works. It was also good, but I will definitely take Tom back to share another sundae. All the food is presented in really fun dishes. It was a well deserved treat!

On Wednesday, I took Lucy and we drove up to St. George to visit Kay. After a delicious dinner prepared by Kay, we went to Kay's RS meeting where she was teaching the sisters in her ward a hymn and we played at the playground on the way home.

I was able to go to the St. George temple. What a beautiful temple! The Boise temple is closed for at least a year undergoing renovations so I'm hoping to visit a lot of new temples in the weeks to come. and then we went to lunch with Pam and Kay at a yummy Japanese restaurant.
Lucy loved it!
Back in Las Vegas, I was able to babysit Zach and Lucy so Jon and Sara could go to a graduation dinner. I took them to In and Out and then to the pet store.
Friday was Jonathan's graduation from the Dental Residency program at Nellis Air Force Base.

It was so cool to be on the Air Force Base and see the military honor the graduates. Jonathan's Grandma Cardon and Uncle Ron drove down from Cedar City, Utah to support Jon in his graduation. We went to lunch with Grandma Cardon and Uncle Ron after the graduation ceremony at Mimi's Cafe.
On Saturday, Sara and I drove to Prim, California to the outlet malls. We had so much fun shopping and finding all sorts of bargains. We even got to eat gyros for lunch at the Mad Greek. It was featured on an episode of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. It was really good.
I flew back to Boise on Saturday evening. I had a great time in Las Vegas with Sara and family. I was glad I was able to spend my time with them right after Taylor left. Tom was gone all week on the 50 miler with the young men in our ward and I didn't want to be home alone in my newly empty nest. Sara, Jon and the kids and Aunt Whitney left Las Vegas the following Tuesday and headed to North Carolina to their new home!

I'm glad, too, as it meant you came here! I loved your good report- especially that chocolate part. I love Sara's pretty pink blouse and Jonathan looks so handsome in his uniform.

What a fun post to read! Max Brenner's is a couple of doors down from the Apple store, where Roger and I have been taking computer lessons for 2 and a half years. We watched it go in, and at the grand opening time, they were giving free chocolate shots and samples of all kinds of things as people walked by. We have never eaten there; I can't wait to try it, after reading your post! I'm so glad we got to have lunch together at Sakura; Lucy is a cutie! Moving is so much work - you forget how much between each experience of it! Hope Sara and family are enjoying their new place! Looks like it was a great graduation!

Can I just say you are the best mom ever!!! We are in the middle of pack up and I wish my mom would watch the kids all day so I could get packed but I guess since she already does so much for me I can't complain!

What a great trip! Congratulations to Jonathan - that is a great accomplishment! It sounds like you had lots of fun while also being a great help to Sara! I am sad that I missed the sister lunch but I am so glad that you were all able to get together!

How sweet of you to help out, I'm sure it was much appreciated. Sounds like you had a lot of fun with the grandkids and ate at a bunch of yummy places- which is my idea of the perfect trip! Sara looks so pretty in those graduation pics.
